Where is the DR16.2 Database location in MacOS?

PostWed Apr 01, 2020 5:41 pm

Hi-
I had a system meltdown in which (Applecare is guessing) a corrupted file began wreaking havoc. My iMac backup file was even corrupted, unable to finish itself. Now, the iMac is down, and I've set it into target mode to pull files manually.
I've copied all of the application and user info to a new drive, but where is the project database stored? My laptop can't run DR16.2, so I can't open Resolve or the Project Server application to see if I've lost my edit sessions and the last saved version of things.
I have to wipe and reinstall the iMac, but before I do I wanted to make sure-
Q: Will my project database and saved timelines, etc, be there when I've loaded the application back?
I (stupidly) don't remember backing up the database to an external drive before this.

Thanks for any help-
Ezra

If the only Resolve version you've ever had installed on this system was a Resolve 16.x version, and if you were using the default Disk database, it will be here:

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinciResolve/Resolve Disk Database

Where username is whatever User you're running Resolve under.

Note that /Users/username/Library is normally a hidden folder, and you won't normally see it, unless you've modded Finder to show hidden files/folders.

If you've had a Resolve version earlier than 16 installed on this system, then the default Disk database will be here:

/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database.

You mentioned the Project Server. That is only for PostgreSQL databases. If you had any of those on the system, the info for those would be in /Library/PostgreSQL/9.5/data

Note that you can't just copy/paste the data folder to a new drive. It's very permissions and ownership sensitive.

Thanks-
I've reinstalled Resolve and am looking to import the project
In the folder /Resolve Disk Database there is /Resolve Projects
/Settings
/Users
but none of the files are recognized-
I did not specifically do a database backup before my system melted down, I saved [command s] repeatedly treating it like FCP - where there's a saved file vault.

Any help to find my work is really appreciated!
Thanks!

Send a Resolve log file and a Mac System Information .spx file.

When you say you are looking to import the project, what does that mean? Do you have a project export .drp file of the project in question? And you want to Import it?

Thanks Dwaine!
Here are the files- couldn't upload them here so have a dropbox link

Sorry if I'm using the wrong term- I mean open/restore/import/anything that will bring my many projects back. The new install isn't seeing anything in the resolve disk database folder-

I really appreciate all the help!

I need a proper Resolve diagnostics log.

If you can open a new project in Resolve, go to the Resolve Help menu and select "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop".

If you can't do that, open Finder and go to /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve and run CaptureLogs

Your current database location is here:

Users/tellingimageedit/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database

This is where Resolve would create the default Disk database on a system where Resolve 16 was the first installed version.

However, in your previous scenario, before your system meltdown, your database MAY have been here:

Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database

if you previously had Resolve 15 or earlier installed on the system.

Did you have Resolve 15 or earlier installed on your system before the meltdown?

Do you still have access to the user data before the meltdown, or was it on the current system drive and has that been reformatted and reinstalled?

Hi-
I did have 15 installed previously, but don't have the Resolve Disk Database folder there.
Here's what's inside my /Application support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/

Hi Dwaine-
I've just found a file on an external HD
Maybe I did get a database file backup before the meltdown

localdatabse.resolve.diskdb
it's about 13Mb

Is this secret sauce? where should I put it?
Thanks!

Looks like a disk database backup.

There for sure WOULD have been a Resolve Disk Database folder in that folder in your screen shot, when Resolve 15 was installed. The fact there is not one there now, implies that was all wiped out and recreated when you installed 16. That's what the folder layout for a from scratch Resolve 16 install would look like in that location.

So do a Restore operation and aim it at your .diskdb file. It will Restore into a new Disk database. You can put it anywhere Resolve can write to. Maybe put it in your User Documents folder.
