1080P not recognized. Seen as 720P

PostSat Apr 04, 2020 10:08 am

Little background, I am recording on Streamlabs OBS. I have my resolution set to 1080P and when I look at the file details it also says it is in 1080. When I try to add the file to Resolve it shows in the details that it is 720. The image is cropped into the top left of the screen.

Can you post a test clip or check with Media Info (free)?
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I always recommend hardware recording over software for screen capture intended for editing, as hardware offers better recording options specifically designed for editing.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Your problem may lie in the fact that Streamlabs OBS is intended for streaming. There are a few people complaining that it resets their 1080 to another resolution. This may be linked to the software automatically setting things based on your hardware. I think you need to further investigate what it is actually doing. Cropping the picture to the top left of the screen is also unusual behaviour.
Here's an illustration for reference.
The first pic shows the 720p source clips' metadata, the second shows the Timeline metadata. There is no problem with image placement. The Timeline is set to 1080.

I found the problem, even though the video was in 1080p, streamlabs has like 3 different spots in its settings to change the "canvas" size. one of these spots were set to 720p and even though everything else recognized it as 1080, Resolve must have seen this information hidden somewhere in the data.
