Timeout when waiting for frame for recording frame dropped

PostThu Apr 23, 2020 4:55 am

I've only rendered a few videos with Davinci Resolve as I wanted to try it before buying the software (I'm coming from using Sony Vegas Pro 15) and today I seem to have hit a brick wall. The last video I rendered I had issues with, but I fixed the issue by changing the format to MP4. Yet, in this video after trying all the proposed solutions nothing has helped me so far, so I'm hoping someone here can. I am trying to render at 1440p at 60fps (my source material). I get the same message every time (Timeout when waiting for frame ####### for recording frame dropped) and it's a different frame that needs to be rendered each time. I have noticed that right before (or right after) getting the message my CPU goes form being 100% utilized to around 7% then Resolve locks up and won't let me click anything (as if it crashed) except when I try to close it, it works normally and asks if I want to cancel the render.

Things I've tried:
* Manually Selecting my GPU and turning off GPU scopes + manually selecting Open CL
* Turning off the "Stop playback when a dropped frame is detected" + "Stop renders when a frame or clip cannot be processes"
* Rendering as Individual Clips
* Changing the location where the render is sent to another drive
* Changing the rendering speed down to 50%
* Lastly switching the format to Cinneon
* An update came out while going through these issues, and after updating I still have the same issue I'm just now running on 16.2.1.017

System Specifications:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Radeon 5700 xt (Gigabyte edition)
16gb 3200mhz Trident Z
Gigabyte x470 Aorus (Ultra Gaming)
OS is Windows 10

I am running 2 NVME SSDs for video storage when working/rendering, for long term storage I have hard drives, so the hard drives aren't being used at all here. One of the NVME SSDs is my boot drive, and I never have any footage etc on it, but I've tried rendering to it as users have suggested rendering to a different drive from the footage. The SSDs are a Samsung 960 Pro (512 GB, boot drive), and a Inland Premium 1TB.

If there's any more information I could give just let me know.

Do you have any overclocking turned on as some users have found that unstable when Resolve is trying demanding processes.

I haven't overclocked my 3600 (as Ryzen 3000 doesn't overclock too much higher than the boost)

I've seen quite a few threads with this issue since the upgrade to 16.2. I have had the same issue. I read somewhere here that the free version only supports Quicktime output? I can't believe that would be true. Is there somewhere we can get a link to download the previous version because from what I've read, that's the only fix right now.

I tried rendering with Quicktime output as well and it didn't work as well

While the issue hasn't been resolved I figured I'd post a follow up.

The issue now exists in all projects when trying to render, rather than just the one project. I have now tried a few other formats and I have imported the project into a new project and tried to render it and the problem still persists. I'll try to keep the thread updated if the issue continues, thanks for any suggestions if you have any!

Did you try rendering in another format like DNxHR or Cineform?

I have, the default format is MXF 0P1A (some some reason when I render in this the form the file size is far higher than it should be, all of the footage I'm using put together is around 5GB but when I render the file size shoots up to over 250gb before failing [EDIT: I realized that this past time I had the quality set extremely high which is probably why that issue occurred]) and I've tried MP4 and Cinneon. DNxHR isn't an option and neither is Cineform for me when I scroll through the formats (I assume these are for the paid version only, or not for Windows).

i have basically the same setup as you, just different branded 5700xt and 32gb ram and this consistently happens to me.
i think it has to do with AMD's Precision Boost Overdrive not playing well with Resolve.

i posted a video today showing 2 workarounds that work for me.

i'm not allowed to post URL's since i signed up today to try to help you out.
but search on YouTube for WeasilPC and find my video about resolve and see if it gets you going.

hope this helps.

This issue seems to have been resolved in a recent update.

OT question for QueeQuey,

Im contemplating replacing my 2TB SSD with a 2TB m.2 NVME SSD for overall system performance boost. The Inland Premium seems to have great reviews and is $90 cheaper than the Samsung 970....how is yours working for you?

I appreciate any input...

Best,
Anthony
