Jittery 10 fps playback after upgrade

PostSat Apr 25, 2020 6:16 am

I recently upgraded from resolve 15 to resolve 16.2.1. I imported my database into the new version. When I open my saved projects in the edit tab the video playback is only at 10 frames per second and very jittery whereas in davinci resolve 15 playback was at a smooth 30 frames per second I checked the playback settings and it is set to 30 fps. I have also tried optimised rendering and the clips still only play back at 10 fps. Please advise I have spent hours trying to figure this one out.

Thanks

If the clips are h.264 you will likely need the Studio version now as there was a change last year for support on that format.. can you provide more info.. OS even? hardware config and codec etc.

Hi I am using h.264 format on Windows 10 PC. Pity I have to upgrade to studio as I occasionally only edit family videos as a hobby and not a business so I can't justify the $300 upgrade price.

Alternatively look for another app that can covert the format to something the free version will play.

Do you perhaps have a list of compatible formats with the free version?

Check that you have an up to date GPU driver. If using an Nvidia card, go to their website and check there. You need to use a Studio version driver, and when installing use the Clean Install option.
Oh, and no problems with h264 here using the free version of Resolve.
Resolve Studio 19.1.3 build 7
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (572.16 Studio Driver), Win10 Home, Speed Editor, Faderport 1, Calibrated Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ & Samsung monitors for UI, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I'm having the same issue since I upgrade from 15 to 16.
Computer spec is:
Inter(R) Core(TM) i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.49GHz
8.00 GB RAM (7.69 GB Usable)
GeForce GT 730M - Graphics card.

Never had any issues with playback, typical footage is 1080HD H.264.
Does this mean if I upgrade to studio playback will be smooth again?
Or is there another way to make it smooth again?

I'm not very tech literate FYI
Thanks in advance

I can confirm that in the free v16 I get jittery 10fps on a h.264 mp4 file (even after optimizing and user rendering). Switched to the last free v15 release and was able to play the mp4 video smoothly without even optimizing or pre-rendering the video.

Same problem!
Happens only in v16.2 (I tried 16.2.8.005).
v16.1 (16.1.2.026) works well.

I'm using laptop Asus GL703GE.
CPU: i7-8750H
GPU: GTX 1050 Ti
