Creating a new timeline

PostWed May 20, 2020 3:43 am

Just my 3 cents, but the way to create a new timeline, I often find the location for this comand to be counter intuitive. Yes I am slow to learn...

I get it that I have to be in the EDIT page, but to make a new empty blank timeline one must click FILE, then in the dropdown click Create the new empty timeline.

However I often find myself clicking on the dropdown TIMELINE, to find that option. Theres no option to make a new blank timeline from that TIMELINE dropdown. One might expect the option would be in there.

or

Right click the Timelines bin, in the right click pop up, again theres no Create a new blank timeline option. Sure there is and option to Create new Timeline using Selected Bin, thats nice, but that drops in all the clips from a selected bin. I'd appreciate also a simple Create New Timeline option as well.

Right-click in the empty space in your media pool and go for Timelines -> Create new timeline.
Or Command-N. Works in Edit, not in Media.

Are you trying to "figure it out"? That really is a slow way to learn.

The books/lessons offered by BMD are a much better way to learn this software.

+1

I'm suprised to find "Create New Timeline" in the "File" menu.
I was suspecting it in the "Timeline" menu.

Recently I've been having my bins in List View, so every time, I wanted to create a new timeline, I right-click on the open bin as I'm used to. But, since I'm in List View, it selects a clip and then there's no option to create a new timeline. You only get that option when clicking in empty space between clips and you can only do that in Thumbnail view. That is annoying.
That was the only reason, why I was looking for a "Create New Timeline" menu item in the "Timeline" menu to begin with. To not have to always switch to thumbnail view and back again just to create a timeline.

Huh? I can click just fine in an empty space, both in thumbnail or list view when in Edit to create a timeline.

I have discovered..that if my bins panel is in Thumbnails view, and if I Right Click over a blank space.. then there is that option to Create a New timeline.
I use List view often, not Thumbnail view.

If however I am in a list view.. and I right click, there is no such option. Perhaps it is related to the version I am using.See my specs below. Perhaps this has been "resolved" in a more current version.

I'd still also like to see the option also under the Timeline menu dropdown. To me, that is a very intuitive place for such a command.
