Audio Clips Play, Visible in Fairlight But Not Cut

PostFri Jun 05, 2020 2:42 am

I have a weird error - I'm trying to record voiceover for my video and it seems to record just fine. The audio shows up in Fairlight (see example below) and I can hear it during playback.

However, some of the audio files don't show up in the Cut view (see example below). It's not really the end of the world since I can still hear it during playback, but it's making editing rather difficult in spots and I'm worried that it will affect the final. I've found a bunch of posts about waveforms not showing up, but I wasn't able to find this issue elsewhere in the forums. Can anyone help me with this?

Try re-setting the UI and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to have helped. Any other suggestions? I was thinking that maybe there was a difference between the files that are visible in the Cut view and the ones that aren't, but I haven't found it yet.

Do they appear in the Edit page?

Yes, it looks like they do. Does that give you an idea of what might be wrong? I don't seem to be able to split audio and video clips from the Edit page like I was doing.

Well, I am at a loss for an answer. However, I did spot something that may or may not be a problem. In the taskbar at the bottom of the page there appears to be two Resolve pages open. I don't see this in either single or dual screen mode on my system.

The Edit page has more functionality than the Cut page. What exactly are you trying to do here?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I avoided posting too much context just because I like for my forum posts to be focused on the problem and therefore more generally useful. Apologies if that made things confusing. I'd also like to contextualize this by saying that I'm a raw beginner to DaVinci Resolve and have been doing what works rather than what may or may not be best practice, so please forgive me if I'm doing things a little screwy.

I'm working on a cooking video to share with friends. It quickly became apparent that it would be easiest to mute the audio on the video and do a voiceover, so I imported all the video in the Media tab, then dragged it onto the timeline in order on the Cut tab. I've been editing it directly there - I'll add a video file, mute it, advance the timeline to where I want to cut it, right-click and split, then delete the part I don't want. Then I move over to Fairlight to record the audio as I play back the trimmed video. Does that answer the question?
