GPU out of memory

PostThu Jun 11, 2020 9:10 am

Hi,

I'm new to davinci (been editing in lightworks). Got a pocket 4k so I want to take advantage of the software.

When I add a deltakeyer effect in fusion and then move around the timeline a bit I immediately get a message that my GPU is out memory. Do I need to make a proxy video or change settings for GPU memory somewhere?

6GB VRAM is quite low for 4K, but plenty for HD. Get a better GPU if you really need 4K output.
Lightworks is easier on hardware resources, but Resolve is highly dependent on the GPU.

I'm thinking this is a bug that even 11GB of VRAM won't solve.

You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Try to switch from CUDA to OpenCL, you might loose some speed but gain stability.

Seconded, it works very well for that GPU.

Is there any official support from blackmagic for the software? I can't use Davinci, my screens go bezerk. I tried the different studio drivers. I have a license.

I used to have the same problem as well. What helps - just a bit - (but does not solve the issue!) is, to close other programs in the background: like Firefox/Chrome/etc...

Most of the BM staff used to monitor this forum and sometimes they are helping ppl here.

What I see, this bug prevents a lot of ppl to switch over from other platforms. Just like Linus(techtips) when they tested Resolve and they showed a screenshot of the well famous "GPU out of memory" message. I think this should be checked and fixed, because this is the most annoying problem I found even in my small project. I had to remove 'deflicker' plugin to avoid GPU full on delivering the project on a 8GB VMem card.

Hi Peter,

From Javier's signature it seems he has no other GPU. For myself: the 4790K has an internal GPU but it's not in use. In preferences I cannot even select it, but GTX 1070TI is directly selected just to be sure. My Resolve version is 16.2.3 Studio. I'll test the latest version come out yesterday and come back.

This bug is so random, somettimes I have tons of things in timeline and everything works fine and sometimes a simple comp make this GPU thing happen.

Yes, it's still exists in 16.2.4. Apply Deflicker plugin from ResolveFX on a color graded (+noise reduction) 4k 30FPS footage and you are out of 8GB GPU memory.

It doesn't help, as soon as I put deflicker on RAW 4K it will lag and show a GPU out of memory message.

I have a 1080TI 11GB VRAM, I turned off all other options using the GPU.
No other option causes this issue.

try rendering clips without the deflicker and then bring those back into the timeline and just apply the deflicker.

Same problem, can't find the way to fight it. This problem presists even with lightly graded projects, i admit that it rarely happen when you work with full hd, but hey guys, im delaying delivery of my projects all the time cause i cant even render projects from the first time, every time i press render im starting to pray that i won't get any errors. It would be okay if i would be student, but now my money is on stake, i hope Blackmagic team will solve this issue, i really dont want to get back to adobe

This seems to have worked for me. It's no longer crashing and running out of memory when using fusion.

Thanks. :)
