Unable to upgrade from 16.2 16.2.3 (Windows)

I had installed DR 16.2 on my Windows 10 workstation about a month ago. But I hadn't used it.

Then DR 16.2.3 was released. So I upgraded from DR 16.3 to DR 16.2.3.

After the upgrade: I was unable to add media to the media pool. So I uninstalled DR and all of its components through the MS Windows 10 Apps & Features control panel. And then I attempted to re-install. But now: DR 16.2.3 complains...

"An new version Resolve is already installed, please uninstall it in Control Panel first."

But, when I look in the MS Windows 10 Apps & Features control panel: I do not find DR or any of its components!

How can I fix this?

TIA,

I recommend the following over the built-in Uninstaller. It has the option to Automatically remove residual files which can really clean things out. (Including databases, so always back up first.)

https://www.iobit.com/en/advanceduninstaller.php

That said, have you tried troubleshooting 16.2.3 yet? Maybe we can get that working for you?

Skeptical that an uninstall app will fix this. If that doesn't work, or you don't want to try that, follow my regedit procedure near the end of this thread:

Thank you all for your help! I was able to edit the registry - Thanks to Dwaine's detailed, step-by-step instructions in that other thread - and then uninstall and reinstall DR mostly. i.e., Now, in the Blackmagic Designs folder (in the Windows Start menu), I'm only left with...
  • Blackmagic RAW Speed Test,
  • Blackmagic RAW Player, &
  • Davinci Resolve Panels.
I might just reinstall the entire O/S at this point!

Ideas? Suggestions?

TIA,
Eric P.

You ran the Resolve installer, and it installed Resolve? And then you looked in Control Panel - Programs and Features, and DaVinci Resolve is not in the list?

That's my fault.

The idea is to have I/O Bit Uninstaller as the default Uninstaller on the system. That done, one would reinstall 16.2.3 and try to troubleshoot the problems with that version. Failing that, one would then use the new I/O Bit to remove 16.2.3, leaving the system ready for an older version.

I should have made that more clear up front.

Yes - I ran the Davinci Resolve Installer (C:\Users\Eric\Downloads\DaVinci_Resolve_16.2.3).
No - Resolve does not appear to have been installed:
  • Resolve is not in the Control Panel. (Only Blackmagic RAW Common Components; Davinci Resolve Keyboards; Davinci Resolve Panels are in the list.)
  • Under the Blackmagic Design item (in the Windows Start menu) there are only three items: Blackmagic RAW Player, Blackmagic RAW Speed Test, & Davinci Resolve Panels.
When I re-run the installer: It complains that "A newer version Resolve is already installed..."

I like your idea of reinstalling the OS.

But before that, try this:

Rename folder C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve to C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve.bak, if that folder exists.

Rename folder C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve to C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve.bak, where xxxx is your Windows User name, if that folder exists.

Once you've verified those 2 folders are renamed, or don't exist, run regedit and delete the Resolve version again.

Then try another install.

And be sure to configure your settings to show hidden files and folders or you might think something does not exist when it really does.
