Font Faces Not Showing up in Text Titles on Mac

PostSat Jul 25, 2020 6:04 pm

Hello,

I am having an issue where when installing new fonts, whether TTF or OTF, only one version of the font family will show up in the regular text title from the effect library but all will show up in the text+ area of the effect library.

I have searched the forum and seen this issue on Windows but not on mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated, here is more background.

I am running Mac OSX 10.15.6 and DaVinci Resolve Studio 16.2.4.016. I have tried to install all fonts in as many different methods as I could think of, whether that be TTF or OTF, on the user level or on the computer level in the font book, and I have also dragged and dropped them into my ~/Library folder. All render the same results.

When I add a regular text title to the timeline, I can select my font but when I go to click down on the Font face drop down menu, I see none of the other faces.

But when I add a Text+ to the timeline when I click to change the font faces, all 3 font face I installed appear, and everything is successful.

Last thing to note, I thought it might have been my files so I uninstalled all font families pertaining to the font and only installed the one I needed. This time it was the Condensed version. As a result when I booted up Resolve I added the normal text title to the timeline, boom it worked. So it appears either I am doing something wrong or there is a bug for when multiple font families are added for use in resolve.

Any suggestions or has anyone come up with a similar issue?
Thanks

I have the same issue on a Mac. I'm using subtitles and in the "Style" tab, I can access all the fonts I installed, but in the "Caption Style" tab the installed font does not show up in the "Font Family" menu.

+1. I have exactly the same issue. I tried reinstalling fonts, restarting software, computer etc... very annoying. The only solution I've found was to leave just the font face you need for this project e.g. semibold. This is obviously not a long term solution.

Same issue here. I have Museo Sans family installed and a few of the weights are showing (100, 700, 900) but the exact weights I need (300, and 500) are not. I have this font in both offline and typekit form and neither are working. I have enabled and disabled both variations.

Curiously, the missing weights (300 and 500) do show up in the subtitle channel details and when placing text in Fusion. Feel like a bug?

I'm having the same issue, too, In DaVinci Resolve Studio 17.1. For the font «Basel Grotesk» DRS 17.1 only lets me choose the «Light» font face, but not the regular anymore. This has worked before. Any hints are very appreciated.

The fonts show up in the text+ tool... but how to change different font styles in the same text is far from user friendly....

Any joy regarding progress on this matter?

I see lots of comments from frustrated users, none of whom have had any success, with apparently nothing being done about it.

Bumping this!
It doesn't seem like it's a problem on Resolve on Windows, but it is on Mac and that's really bothersome.

I came across this issue just today when I took over an existing project from a colleague. He'd created an end frame using a bold font but when I opened the project it reverted to the regular font face of the same font family, and I didn't have any option for bold like he did despite having access to the same font assets for the project. I went and found the same font in Font Book and saw I did have access to all the different font faces however the font wasn't completely activated in font book. Once I right clicked and activated it, I restarted Da Vinci and they were all there. Hope this helps!

Yeah I have the same issue. I don't get any fonts displaying on my Text. I just get the square and rectangular symbols. This needs to be sorted ASAP!

I would like to add my vote to this. I'm using a font manager on my Mac (Typeface 2) as I have to use hundreds of different fonts for my work. Unfortunately it appears that Resolve (or at least the Text+ features) only reads fonts from the Mac-native Font Book location. With the amount of fonts I have to maintain this is not a feasible solution. Please add the ability to read fonts from other locations as the current situation requires me to render the video out and add titles in a separate application. This appears to go back years, as i found several topics during my search dating as far back as 2016.

No, Resolve under Windows got the same problem.

It seems that the Text object from the classic Edit page don't use the same fonts than Fusion Text objects.
A quick guess:
Maybe Fusion is looking on all the fonts available, and Edit looks for installed fonts only.

Also, on macOS, looks like Fusion is happy to list many of the system fonts (such as Noto) that can't actually be rendered by Fusion - they appear as blocks. Annoying - plus macOS won't let you deactivate those useless system fonts any longer (as of Ventura, possibly).

its almost 2024.. the proper solution still HAS NOT BEEN INTRODUCED!

I mean COME ON Blackmagic! You are so good at all other aspectrs of your software! Can you fix this crucial bug already?? And also please fix the dreaded "media offline" for imported fusion clips containg media.

I have the same issue on Resolve Studio 18.6.5 in March 2024 on Mac OS Sonoma 14.2.1 on a M1 Max 64gb 16in Macbook Pro. Very annoying and I hope they make this a priority.

I have seen cases where fonts are available in Text Edit and Microsoft word, and they're available in Fusion... but the regular Text generator in Resolve can't "see" the font. I'm not sure whether to blame the OS or Blackmagic, but I generally go for blaming Apple (in my case).

As one of many examples; if you install the full suite of Adobe Helvetica fonts -- including all the variations (Black, Bold, Oblique, Thin, etc.) -- only a fraction of them are visible in Resolve. And Adobe fonts are about as official as you can get in the graphics business. Same issue with some of the ITC fonts.
