No Video Playback/Preview in Resolve 16 Studio

PostFri Jul 31, 2020 8:53 pm

Hi, I'm using DaVinci Resolve 16.2.5 and everything works great except that I don't have any video playback or preview.

Audio is playing tho. And the everything seems to be rendering correctly when exporting.
If I interrupt the video playback by hovering and moving my cursor over the audio file in the media pool then the timeline video and audio playback stops but then one frame from the video timeline is shown. If I just stop the timeline playback then nothing is shown, only grey background.

Can somebody assist me with this issue?

Here is the video where I demonstrate the issue:

I've attached my log archive.

Does your timeline frame rate match that of the source clips? Are the clip Constant or Variable framerate as Resolve does not play nice with Variable? Are you using an up to date driver for your GPU?

Yes, timeline framerate is 25,00 as well as the source clip's. Clip is a constant 25,00 fps.
Yes, I'm using the latest ROCm driver with OpenCL support.
I have Threadripper 1900x and Vega64.

I have also provided the logs so all the data should be in there.
Is there any more info that I need to provide?

We only support CentOS, and we really only support NVIDIA in that distro.

AMD on Linux can be extremely challenging to make work.

The OpenCL stuff seems to be working, else Resolve wouldn't be running at all. But there is some sort of OpenGL issue, and that's what's causing your viewers to be black.

On a Windows system with integrated graphics and a real GPU, having the GUI display on the integrated grpahics, and not on the GPU, causes similar OpenGL errors. But as best I can tell, you only have the AMD GPU on your system. So I don't know what's causing your OpenGL errors.

You might get more help with this from the main Resolve Linux thread:

Can you please provide more info as to what to test and how?
I would really like this resolved and I'll try whatever and invest my time in testing etc, just tell me what/how.

[EDIT]: So installing amdgpu-pro 20-30 solved my issue but I still think the issue with Resolve not working well with ROCm should be explored and resolved.
I'm willing to help out with testing if you are willing to improve DR's Linux support.

Also installing amdgpu-pro 20-30 introduced a new issue in the Fairlight tab where I can no longer see the audio tracks. It only shows black square.

Here's the screenshot of the issue:
