Clean Video Feed Question (PC to Ipad possible?)

PostSat Aug 01, 2020 8:30 pm

Hey Guys,

I'll cut straight to the chase...
Is it possible to do a clean video feed from a PC to an IPAD? Or is this exclusive to Mac to Ipad only?

Thanks as always!

You can use NDI ScanConverter on Windows (or Linux) to generate an NDI Stream from the Clean Feed Monitor, then use NDI Monitor for iPad to view it with super low latency

Thanks for the response Mark!

Do you know if quality is effected at all going through all this? I'm not using my Ipad as a primary display but love the idea of having the option to toggle and see what something looks like on it.

NDI Scan converter is limited to 1080 60p and produces awful quality with higher resolution screens.

A better way is to use OBS with NDI output plugin. Also OBS can use the "game capture" method on the clean feed window rather than grabbing the screen which provides much higher performance.

There are two flavors of NDI, the lossy is H264.

Another thing you can always do is lossless H264 from OBS via FFMPEG as RTMP server to VLC on any device.

I use the Duet App on IPad to preview clean feed from Win 10 PC on occasion. Its not going to prevent the wash-out problem when actually viewed from iPad though - because it is still Windows pushing the feed to iPad and it wont be WYSIWYG with IPadOS doing the screen rendering. You also dont get 10-bit output because duet is an 8-bit only App.

Be careful of several Impostor Apps with the name Duet in them if you are checking them out though. The one by ex-Apple engineers has duetdisplay in the title.

PS:I think there is an option to color-manage the clean-feed via DVR so I guess this is a good option if setup properly.
