Corsair Service (iCUE)prevents DaVinci Resolve from starting

PostMon Aug 10, 2020 5:34 pm

I game on my system, as well as use DaVinci Resolve 15 & 16 (Problem persists on both versions). For gaming I use Corsair iCUE for my gaming headset, this software has a service that runs in the background. So when Resolve starts up, it always stops responding when its looking for the control surface. Now I thought the control surface relates to the audio portion of Resolve, so i tried to troubleshoot by looking for conflicting audio drivers, software, etc. that might be running on my system. And sure enough, I stopped The CorsairService through the services management console in Windows 10 and it completely fixed the issue that Resolve has while starting up. Why does Resolve and Corsair Services (iCUE) have this conflict and can it be patched in the future?

I always recommend editing on a system dedicated to editing - no games, no email, no office, etc.

This is why.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Resolve doesn't always work well with external USB audio hardware-- if your gaming headset connects via USB, try disconnecting it and see if that helps.

As a troubleshooting step, uninstall the corsair software and see if that fixes it; if it does, you've at least isolated the problem. I make my living off my resolve system, so I tend not to have anything at all extraneous on it, but if you've got a dual purpose gaming/production system, you could set up a second user account, just for production, with stuff like icue disabled.

Several weeks ago, I ordered a Corsair Void Pro headset, since multiple people were having issues with it. It just arrived today. So your post was timely Austin.

Plugging in the USB headset adapter, without the iCUE software installed, did not create any Resolve launch issues.

After installing the iCUE sw, Resolve hangs for 12 minutes during the launch attempt.

I tried stopping the Corsair Service through the Services Management Console, as you indicated, but it immediately starts running again. Even if I set it for Manual startup, I can't stop it from restarting immediately after a Stop. Curious how you were able to make it stop?

iCUE is in the Task Manager Startup tab, so I imagine that will stop it, after a reboot.

The only thing that seems to help the Resolve 12 minute startup delay (at least while the Corsair Service is running) is to unplug the Corsair USB adapter.

A bit more testing on this. There are 3 Corsair related services running in the Services window. After removing iCUE from the Task Manager Startup tab, and rebooting, the Corsair Service is now in Manual mode and not running. Resolve still hangs for 12 minutes.

Stopped all 3 Corsair related services. Resolve still hangs for 12 minutes.

I had to uninstall iCUE for the hang issue to go away, with the headset connected to the USB port.

All of this is just as an FYI for anyone using a Corsair USB connected headset and the iCUE software. Either unplug the headset, or uninstall iCUE to make the Resolve startup hang issue go away.

Hopefully it's something we can work on solving in the future.
