No video, audio only

PostTue Aug 11, 2020 1:16 am

Hi there!
I'd like to ask you guys for some help in an issue I'm having with my edition.
For some reason I don't know, DaVinci Resolve stopped importing video of a clip into the timeline, it only imports the audio.
So for example, if I want to import a new clip to my project and I put it into the Media Tool everything goes well, it's recognized properly. But once I go to the Edit Tool and drag it onto the Timeline DaVinci Resolve only incorporates the audio and not the video (this happens with any Media file, I tried AVI, MP4 and MOV but it doesn't work with anyone). Could you guys please help me to fix this problem?
Thank you very much!!

We need specifics on your system hardware and OS and Resolve version to begin to offer help.

All right. I don't know much about this but the System Preferences in my computer say:

macOS Mojave
Version 10.14.6

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, late 2013)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB

Most probably this specs might be old or small for the program, but so far I've been able to edit in 40 video channels with transitions and effects with no problem until the particular issue took place.

Sorry I have just a user level of knowledge (or maybe less) about the system and particularly the program, but I'd be happy to give you any other info you need in order to fix the problem.

Thanks very much!!

With Resolve running, select the DaVinci Resolve menu in the upper left, then select About DaVinci Resolve.

What is the complete version number it shows? And does it say Studio somewhere in the window?

Finally, did you get Resolve from the BMD web site, or is it from the Apple App Store?

The "About DaVinci Resolve" window says as follows:

Version 14.0.0.078

The Window's Title is: DaVinci Resolve Studio 14

I originally got the DaVinci Resolve Studio 14 from the BMD web page. Nevertheless, 3 months ago my computer got something called "malware" so a technitian came and took care of it. He gave me the computer back with DaVinci Resolve installed, so I don't know were did he get it from. I could find out if you need but it might take me a couple of days.

That's a very old version of Resolve. Current version is 16.2.5.

But, 14 might be the newest that would run on your very old and low performance MBP.

So lets not mess with the Resolve version at the moment, if you are sure 14.0 really was working on your system previously.

Start a new project on Resolve. Load a file or files in the Media pool that are not showing video on the Edit page.

Now select the Resolve Help menu, then the "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop" menu. Send us the file it creates on your Desktop.

Ok Dwaine

I have to send you the "Diagnostics Log" of the very file I'm having problems with because when I open a new file and start from scratch I have no issues and DaVinci resolve works perfectly well.
I'm sending you the Diagnostic file then, please find it attached

If by "file" you mean Resolve project, then please also send a Project Export .drp of the project you have the issue with.

On the Resolve Project Manager page, right click the project in question, and select Export Project... to create the Project Export .drp file.

Is this one of the files you are having an issue with:

/Volumes/easystore/Tomas El Baile de los que Sobran/Calle/IMG_0677.MOV

If so, are you sure that when you select this file on the Media page, in the Media Pool, that it appears in the Media page Viewer?

Hi Dwaine

Yes, sorry, I meant "Project"
I have the .drp file, but I couldn't send it to you because the Forum Page showed me the message: "The extension drp is not allowed. How can I send it to you?

Yes, the file you described is one of the ones I'm having issues with. Now, from 4 days ago until now I've been trying to import files unsuccessfully so there are many other clips I've tried to incorporate, that one is just the last one I tried out today just in case (but the problem still continues). Also, all the files (including this one) always show properly in the Media Pool, even though they can't be imported into the Timeline.

Please, let me know if you need anything else
Thank you!

You need to put files for us on a file sharing site, and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new user, the system may not allow you to post URLs. If that happens, just put a space near the front of the URL so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

You say you see the files in the Media Pool? You can select a file in the Media Pool, and the video appears in the Viewer?

If that works, why can't you add the file to a timeline? What happens?

A screen capture video of your issue would probably be very helpful.

Hey I was struggling with this problem too (with resolve 17) randomly found the answer after finding this forum so I came back to share the knowledge..

Click "V1" to the left of your video tracks..

I think the problem is that we somehow managed to deselect a video track and DaVinci didn't know where to put the videos hope this helps someone else.

This. THIS. I cannot tell you how much of a help this is. Thank you so much. Thought I was going crazy, and noticed it worked when I copied everything over to a new project. Was starting to feel like it was hopeless. Thank you a million.

Hello trouble with davinci...
I cleaned the registry and uninstalled everything Davinci.
some .mp4 video files are added to the media pool and only seen as audio files with no video, please help.
I saved out the db for all my projects and when I load the db the files are red, can not be relinked, or when added they only show up as audio w no video.
17.4 studio downloaded directly from the davinci site

In the Resolve Help menu, select "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop".

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

This worked, thanks!

This is a great example of how simple and helpful a solution can be, as opposed to how uptight, overcomplicated, and condescending the guy, Dwaine Maggart is, who, it looks like actually works for BMD:

Unfortunately, there's a lot of that on this forum: expert people being completely unhelpful and spreading bad vibes just cause they can.

Thanks again, ShineO!

Came here for the same problem. Newest version of davinci on a mac studio with all the bells and whistles. But I think this "tech" making you reformatt youre entire life when all you had to do was click V1 is a bit overkill. A simple screenshot of this project would have sufficed
