While nVidias should run with Open CL too, they are much faster with CUDA.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Your config.dat file is bad. You have a good backup copy.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\jojo\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Right click the config.dat.bak file and select Copy.

Now select the Paste menu. That should make a new file called config.dat - Copy.bak

Rename that file to config.dat

Now Resolve should start.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

While it maybe should work it does not in my case. Even an empty project as soon as I add a media file I get the 'error -59' message (error message screenshot attached).

But as everything works just fine in CUDA mode it does not bother me.

Thanks

Hi Dwaine, I hope you hope you had a good 4th of July!

Sadly the solution that you told me about a few days ago did not work.

Here is the link to the resolve file:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yFkhNl ... sp=sharing

and here is the link to the NFO file:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WwDUnC ... sp=sharing

Please tell me if there are any issues.

You have not deleted your bad config.dat file.

In this folder:

C:\Users\brend\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file. Then Resolve should start.

If Resolve does not start after deleting that file, send another Resolve log and .NFO file.

I know you didn't yet delete this file, because the new log file you sent still shows the same bad June 21 file as the first log.

Hi, I'm Peter,

So I've looked through this conversation that Dwaine was helping everyone with on DaVinci Resolve. I've tried all the methods that he's given everyone. But mine still continues to say its not responding, and I need help as to how I get this running I downloaded version 18 Beta and at first I tried downloading it on a non-administrator account and eventually figured out that I needed administrator to run it. So I finally got it to run, but then once I downloaded these plugins and restarted the program it just stopped working. Every time I open it showed the attached picture. I've even tried re-downloading it and that just showed the process of setting it up.

There is no attached picture. What plugins? Assuming you are on Windows....

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Dear Mr. Maggart,

unfortunately my problem with the blank DavinciResolve 17 screen is back again. As a reminder: I start the program, everything is fine until I want to start any kind of project including a fresh one. Than the screen simply stays empty while the program is still running in the task manager. Unfortunately again: the last advice you gave me (Geforce Driver .59, DDU and new iGPU 630 driver) does not work this time...

I suspect the the Audio device as a source failure... Here is my current .nfo and log

@Peter: I don't know. There's an issue loading openGL extensions for the RTX2060 GPU. The NVIDIA driver you have loaded in pretty old. Dell has a critical security update NVIDIA driver for your laptop from June 2022. Install that, and see if that helps. If not, send another NFO and Resolve log.

@Francisco: I see in your Windows error logs a recent crash related to the NahimicService.exe app. However, I don't see that it's currently running in the Running Tasks, Services or Loaded Modules lists.

But Nahimic stuff has been known to play badly with Resolve in the past. And it is audio related. Which perhaps matches your suspicions of an audio device related issue. If you have any Nahimic related stuff installed or running (look in Task Manager in the Processes and Services tabs) that may be the issue.

Dear Mr. Maggart,

I tried for a day and achived nothing but solved the prpoblem immidiately when I returned home. The problem as far as I can tell is, when leaving Resolve with program set to secondary monitor only it tries to force it there and if nothing is connected it just gets stuck on a blank screen. Thats why it started working right away when I reconnected the second monitor back home. However I now uninstalled Nahimic anyway.

Thanks

Hi Georg,

Use it for good!

Hi Sorry I just saw your reply, and that isn't the actual problem. See I have the same problem Georg does and were not able to open DaVinci Resolve and do all this stuff from the video. For me I tried deleting the plugins manually and it didn't work. So I tried seeing if it went into my DaVinci Resolve but it didn't appear to be anywhere in there. And the plugins seem to have corrupted the programing to the point that every time I try reinstalling it, it just won't open it just shows the loading screen. Sorry not trying to be rude if it feels that way I'm just trying to give you as much information as possible.

Hello I have DR 18 and it will get up to loading project and just crash. I tried to load the capture log. bat but this site keeps 413 erroring me, so I can't post. I am trying another file maybe.
Already did the usual suspects
updated GPU driver
Updated USB driver and disconnected all be keyboard and mouse to start DR18
Ran compatibility mode as well all versions.
None of this helped.

I have plenty of resources to get it done. So I am lost why it won't finish loading to the workspace for my project. Anyone have any ideas please? Thanks in advance.

Hallo Fransisco,

I was having the same problem, but think I figured it out.

Go to apps and features and uninstall Davinci Control Panels. Once that was gone, I can open and close with no issues.

I wanted to say thank you Dwaine for providing this quick fix as it helped me as well. I couldn't start DR Studio and was trying to figure out why. By uninstalling the DR Control Panel, I was able to start it up. The following is the system specs in case it helps out the engineers.

MSI MPG B550 GAMING CARBON WIFI MB (latest BIOS)
32 GB DDR-4 memory

Hello,

I recently updated to the version 18, my resolve ran fine the first night then the next night it opened the splash page and refused to fully open.
I've taken all steps listed from the above forums and still it refuses to open.
When attempting to make a capturelog to send into the forums for help, it reads back with
"No such file for directory"

I'm not sure what I can do to help fix this.
Any advice?

@Frank @Desire

The capturelog error is due to having your Desktop on OneDrive.

Unzip the attached file.

The zip contains this file: CaptureLogsOneDrive.bat

Copy this file to C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Then run CaptureLogsOneDrive.bat

This should create the log file.

@Desire: Also open the Windows System Information app and then select it's File - Save menu to create a .NFO file and send that along with the log.

@Frank: Send an NFO and log file with the integrated graphics disabled and Resolve not starting.

No. The either CaptureLogs app will look in the proper place for the Resolve logs.

Can you post a screen shot of what happens when you run CaptureLogsOneDrive.bat?

Somehow, your config.dat file has gotten corrupted.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\Lince\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Now Resolve should start. All the Resolve preferences will be set to their default values. Reselect any Resolve Preference setting changes you had previously made.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

There is displayed a failure message behind the welcome window (see above) with a "quit unexpectately" hint and programm will not start. After some seconds the this window freezes and disappears.

The Windows Error log reports an application error here:

Resolve.exe, Version: 18.0.1.3, Zeitstempel: 0x00000000
Name des fehlerhaften Moduls: gio-2.0-0.dll, Version: 2.68.4.0

gio-2.0-0.dll is an extension Resolve installs and needs. And I've never seen an error related to this dll.

In the Resolve log, we see this error:

(process:9032): GLib-GIO-WARNING **: 03:56:18.234: Unexpectedly, UWP app `Microsoft.WindowsDVDPlayer_3.6.13291.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe' (AUMId `Microsoft.WindowsDVDPlayer_8wekyb3d8bbwe!Microsoft.WindowsDVDPlayer') supports 1 extensions but has no verbs

It appears that you have a Windows DVD Player app of some sort that may be conflicting with the dll we've installed. Again, I've never seen this before, so I assume it's specific to some app on your system. If you have something like that installed, all I can suggest is to uninstall it, and see if that helps.

A corrupt/zero length config file is very likely to happen whenever your system disk fills up. So if you run out of space on a render with the default Resolve folder configuration this will probably happen to you.

Thank you very much for your help :-)
Like Dwain said, it was the Windows App "DVD-Player" (the one with blue-ish CD-Logo)
Just deinstalled and DaVinci started and is working fine till now :-)

In this case, it appears to be a first time install of Resolve, so Resolve hasn't actually been run yet. At least not past the point of this first time launch crash.

Hello Dwayne.

My name is Abian and I have been trying to make Davinci works since 2019 in my OMEN laptop.

In the past I had a Lenovo were Davinci and Fusion worked perfectly but when I get the laptop I have now I haven't been able to use them again.

Short history, I used After Effects and Premier, but I'm really tired of Adobe and paying for a lot of softwares when I only need two.

I bought a suscription for Hitfilm but it feels like a toy.

I tried almost EVERYTHING I found in internet durig these years without any luck.

Recently I have seen a Youtube video recommending to ask you for help.

I consider myself tech savvy but this is beyond my knowledge and reading this post I see that you are a Master Jedi solving problems with Davinci.

May I ask you kindly to look why is not working Davinci in my laptop?

Here are the links to my files:

Take all the time you need.

Thank you for all the support you are giving in this forum to make people work this amazing piece of software.

Hello!

This is a repost because I think my last one got lost between the other ones.

Anyway, Davinci used to work quite well on my computer but it just wont start up (I think since I factory reset my computer). I have tried everything i can think of but so far nothing has worked. Maybe someone here can help me out?

Below is a link with the log and .nfo files:

Thanks in advance!

Tricky one. I'd start by opening Windows Device Manager, selecting Display Adapters, and disabling the Virtual Display Device.

Then see if Resolve will start. If not, send another Resolve log and another NFO file.

Hello Dwayne,

As far as I can see, I have not enabled any Virtual Display Device...

As I said before I tried everything and nothing works...

Sorry, got distracted by the message after yours and didn't get back to yours.

Looks like your issue could be caused by a Red Giant plugin.

To see if that's the case, in Windows File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX

In that folder is a folder called Plugins. Rename the Plugins folder Plugins.tmp

Now launch Resolve and see what happens. If it still won't launch, generate another Resolve log file and send that.

If Resolve does launch, something in the Plugins folder is stopping it. The last plugin it reports before stopping is com.redgiantsoftware.Universe_Transitions_Triangle_Wave_OFX

Could be an issue with that one, or the next one it tried to load after that. Or, there could be other plugins beside the Red Giant ones, and maybe the one above is the last Red Giant plugin, and it's going to the next group of plugins and crashing.

You can look in the Plugins folder to see what all is installed there.
