@Tayce: In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

That's not the Resolve log file I requested. You need to do this, to generate the Resolve log file:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Looks like it launched once on 2-26, but instant crashes after that.

The reason it's currently crashing is because all your Resolve config files are corrupted.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\Tayce\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat, config.dat.bak and .config.data files.

Now Resolve should launch. If you still have issues, send another Resolve log file.

Hi Dwaine,

I had been using Davinci resolve 17 for a few months, one day the application crashed while I was using it and I could not open it after that. Every time I click it, the mouse wheel would show for a few seconds and then go away.

OS: windows 10
GPU: RTX 3070Ti

What I tried
1. reinstall davinci resolve
2. remove from task manager ( there was no running task)
3. set Davinci as my preferred GPU app

Here is a link to the NPO file. space in between "/" and "drive" so it allows me to send:

https:// drive.google.com/file/d/17O8Wvt_bqZIbhaBPDPjr6TpxNhi05qxc/view?usp=sharing

thank you in advance for the help

Your config.dat file has become corrupted.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\Austin Chalissery\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file. And also delete the .config.data file.

Resolve should then start when you launch it. Note that any changes you had made in Resolve Preferences will be reset to factory defaults. So check Resolve Preferences and make sure things are set as desired.

Resolve won't start

PostWed May 04, 2022 10:58 pm

Hi Dwaine,

You seem to have a lot of helpfull tips regarding the starting issues, I hope you can help me aswell.

I've used Davinci Resolved in the past, never had any issues. Tries using it today and I can't figger it out, the program just won't start.

When starting te program it looks (and sounds) like it's about to start, but looking at the task manager it says "Obstructed" and the program never starts.

I've tried numereus things;
- Running as Admin,
- Re-installation,
- Disconnecting mouse/keyboard etc. (even un-installing there sowftware),
- Turned of the Firewall,
- Updated drivers,
- Checked ports via:
Code: Select all
netsh int ipv4 set dynamicportrange protocol=tcp startport=49152 numberofports=16384

Get-NetTCPConnection | Where-Object { $_.State -eq "Listen" -and $_.LocalPort -eq 1144 } | ForEach-Object { (get-process -id $_.OwningProcess).Description }

- Tried running it at different Windows verion dedications (8, 7, Vista (1 & 2)).

Either way it still does not work.

Not sure if you need them but here are my system specs;
- I7 6700K
- 970M (3GB VRAM)
- 16GB DDR4 3200mH
- C:/ 1TB 980EVO NVMe M.2 (Installation location, 40%~ full)

I am looking forward to your responds,

Kind regards.

@Francisco: Resolve is not happy with the OpenCL driver installed on your system. My suggestion would be to use DDU to remove the Intel GPU driver, then see if Resolve will launch. If it does, you can then attempt to install the most current Intel GPU driver available for your laptop. This thread describes how to use DDU to remove the Intel GPU driver:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=119852&hilit=+ddu#p659861

@Floris: We only support Resolve under Windows 10. If you can install Windows 10, and still have issues, we need to following info to assist you:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Hi Dwaine,

Thanks for the reply.

I forgot to mention that my device already had been running on Windows 10.
(Windows 10 Home, 21H2)

The different Windows verion dedications were set through the propperties of DR, in the hope that it would fix the starting issue.

As requested, here are my .NFO and log file.
NFO: mbf .me / u2ETJN
LOG: mbf .me / EBbf1D

I am looking forward to your responds,

It looks like you've opened this project multiple times: MIATA_STARLET_08_05_2022

And then exited Resolve within a minute or 2 of loading the project.

Is the issue only with this specific project? Are you able to create a new project?

If the issue is specific to this project, right click the project in the Project Manager window and select Export Project. Then import the .drp that it creates. Does the imported version of the project work?

If not, provide the .drp for analysis.

Windows 10
Resolve 17.4.6

Was running fine. Exhausted the internal memory which give me an ERROR. Copied files over to external to save projects. TRANSFeRRED projects files from INTERNAL to EXTERNAL. Closed program. Attempted to REOPEN, with no success... hasnt opened since.

Bought and external 4T to place files such.

Reinstalled several times. REMOVED ALL FILES (several times after every reinstall). Reinstalled, still nothing. INSTALLED upgraded 17.4.6 files, still nothing.

I only show ...

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

"PREFERENCES" FOLDER DOES NOT SHOW (as in previous threads regarding config files. All i shave is config6.

Unchecked HIDE and others to SHOW ALL FOLDERS. Doesnt seem to be there to locate config files per other threads as you mentioned.

The link below describes using DDU to remove an Intel driver. Process is the same for an NVIDIA or AMD driver:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=119852&hilit=+ddu#p659861

Sorry it took me a while to get this going. I used the DDU to remove both drivers, and DR17 was up and running, but I then found all my screen resolutions a bit wonky and lost control of some functions (eg. screen brightness control). I reinstalled AMD graphics driver and brightness control returned, but if I understand correctly, I'm supposed to keep the AMD graphics driver uninstalled?? Is this a situation of not being able to have my cake and eat it too, either have a working DR17 vs properly working display?

Thanks for all the help getting me to this point so far though!

I haven't jet recieved a reply. But I want to let you know that I have solved the problem.
Resolved shut down because it was trying to open a project that didn't exist anymore.

Got the idea from one of your other commands, and managed to change the bootup file.

Thanks for your help! Keep up the good work.

Hi there Dwaine,
I'm also having a problem with resolve, whenever I import a 2k media file to my timeline and try to play it resolve closes on me so I can't get any work done. Heres my capture log and nfo : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
Hardware:
RTX 3080 10GB
Ryzen 7 5800x
64GB Ram
OS Windows 10 Pro
Resolve version 17.4.6
I've tried:
Compatibility mode
Run as administrator
Clean installing resolve
Nvidia's latest studio driver as well as resolve 18 but same issue
Even unplugging all usb devices other than my keyboard and mouse.
It worked on my old computer a laptop with a 1050maxq so its a bit disheartening
Thanks in advanced

It's weird that there are no crash dumps in the Resolve logs, or indications of a GPU issue.

But the Windows NFO Windows Error Reporting log shows lots of Resolve crashes related to the NVIDIA nvoglv64.dll file.

Try installing an older NVIDIA Studio driver, and see what effect that has. Something like the 472.84 driver from December 2021.

When you run the driver installer, select the Custom (Advanced) option, then select the "Perform a clean installation" option.

@Jose: Your GTX860M does not have enough VRAM to support H.264/5 encode/decode. But beyond that, that GPU series doesn't support H.264/5 encode/decode, period.

Are you seeing actual error messages? Can you provide a screen shot?

In Resolve Preferences - System - Decode options, uncheck "Decode H.264/H.265 using hardware acceleration". Save the preferences, and restart Resolve. Does that make the error go away?

@Jose: That's odd that you don't have the Preferences selection for H.264/265 hardware acceleration, since you have the Studio version installed. It's possible that Resolve 18 Studio won't show that selection if the hardware has no support.

Since this is a Resolve 18 issue, it would be best reported in the Resolve 18 Public Beta area of the Forum:

viewforum.php?f=36

The software should not be presenting that message if the hardware is not supported. Sort of misleading guidance to update the driver, since that's not going to help anything.

Oh sure thing I've done both clean install and through use of ddu I temporarily switched back to 512.95 due to some black screening now and then.
Switched back to 472.84 here's the new nfo and resolve log attached:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

I did experience one crash when I turned off live save and turned on project backup settings along with trying a cuda to openCl on memory and gpu setting another user tried so reverted those. Beyond that same issue when importing media and moving them to timeline Resolve closes.
Thanks again

I'm baffled by your issue. Are you sure you used the Clean install option for the 472.84 driver? The issue still seems driver related.

My last suggestion, short of reformatting and reinstalling Windows is this:

Use the DDU driver uninstaller app to remove the NVIDIA GPU driver, then install the 472.84 driver again.

This forum thread describes how to use DDU to remove an Intel GPU driver. Follow the same process, only select the NVIDIA GPU driver to remove:

I have been using DaVinci Resolve for the last few weeks to create youtube videos and it has been working amazingly. Although yesterday, as I was editing a video, Resolve crashed a few times, and now it won't start whatsoever. I have tried some troubleshooting and nothing has worked. When I try to open the software I just have a blue spinning circle next to my cursor that disappears shortly after. Please help.

Sincerely,
Elijah

P.S: I don't know if this is the right thing but here is the .nfo file: https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArZjOIfq8wjL32tO8zs ... T?e=824Hag

The NFO is helpful, but we also need a Resolve diagnostics log.

Place this file on a file sharing site and provide a link to the file here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

That link requires access credentials, so I can't see what's in it. Please make it an open link.

Looks like you probably have your Desktop on OneDrive, which can prevent manual operation of the CaptureLogs app from working.

Unzip the attached file.

The zip contains this file: CaptureLogsOneDrive.bat

Copy this file to C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Then run CaptureLogsOneDrive.bat

This should create the log file.

Dear Mr. Maggart,

I really enjoy using Davinci Resolve on a near daily basis. At the moment I'm stuck on a seriouse "Resolve won't start" issue, which is unlike any similar problem I could find. E.g. I followed at least every suggestion in this video
but nothing worked. The final suggestion here was to enter my problem including the Davinci Resolve Log file in this threat :!:

My problem: Davinci Resolve Studio 17 Build 4.6 (and earlier Builds) start normally. Than when I open any Project, including a fresh one no screen appears even though the Resolve Threat remains active in the Taskmanager (screenshot attached). I would like to stick to Davinci Resolve 17 for now because I'm finishing a bigger project.

Thank you so much for your kind support!

Open the Windows System Information app, and select File - Save. That will create a .NFO file with your system info. Provide us that file.

Go to the NVIDIA driver download site, and select the Beta and Older Drivers link in the lower area of the page. Enter your GPU info, then download the 512.59 Studio driver.

When you run the driver installer, select the Custom install option and then the Perform a clean installation option.

If that doesn't help, then use the DDU app to uninstall the Intel GPU driver. Follow the directions at this link: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=119852&hilit=+ddu#p659861

If that still doesn't help, download a current Intel driver for your Intel UHD 630 iGPU.

If all that doesn't help, send a new Resolve log and NFO file.

Dear Mr. Maggart,

after doing everything you said including reinstalling the Intel iGPU driver Resolve opens agains. :D
Was this just a driver hickup? Thanks for the prompt support!

GPU drivers are very critical to run DR under Windows.
When trying the 18 beta on a brand new PC laptop with the factory installation, it was crashing even with the simplest steps. Installing the Nvidia driver 512.59 with a clean install made it run smoothly.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Thanks for the clarification.

One sidenote: Since reopening the program I got the message: "invalid gpu" 'error-59'. This was caused by having the wrong GPU processing mode for my GPU selected (Open CL instead of CUDA). After changing this I could even update to the current Nvidia Geforce driver and still the system runs without problems now. So thanks again

Since another post snuck in while I was composing this: this response is to Elijah:

Good you pinged a reminder.

Looks like your config.dat file has become corrupt. And there is no backup version for some reason.

In Windows File Explorer, go to this folder:

C:\Users\brend\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

And delete the config.dat file. Now Resolve should start. If it doesn't, send another Resolve log and NFO file.
