Color Tab - Adjustment layer grade not seen in clip grades

PostWed Aug 26, 2020 5:59 am

Hi
I am using an adjustment layer covering the entire timeline to tweak the final look for all my clips. Today I noticed a new problem that I never noticed before. In the Color Tab - The first clip has the look applied in the adjustment layer when selected, but when I switch to some other clips following the adjustment layer - The grade I see in the viewer is only the grade applied to that clip not the final look after adjustment layer is applied.

When I playback the entire timeline by selecting the adjustment layer in Color Tab - There is no change in the look of the very first clip indicating WYSIWYG after application of color grades in the adjustment layer - not so for the rest of the clips following adjustment layer. Suddenly for these clips, the color balance looks way off because of the adjustment layer

The problem this leads to is that after applying a look, I want to tweak the clips below the adjustment layer on the timeline to make some final corrections without touching the adjustment layer which affects all other clips, but I cannot view the results of the tweaking in real time in either Clean-Feed or main viewer. I am having to switch to Adjustment layer to view then jump back to clip to redo the corrections blindly without feedback of the adjustment layer. And IIRC I pretty sure this was not the case until 16.2.4 at least?

I'm not seeing that here. In the pic the Adjustment Clip is just carrying some Midtone detail. I'm still able to tweak the colour of individual clips with no problem with or without the Adjustment Clip being active. Playing back with the Adjustment Clip disabled I'm still able to see the affect of any tweaking.

Hi
Thanks for responding. Not sure if you and I are on the same page - perhaps my explanation was poor. Let me clarify.

Whatever clip I select, I expect to see the grades in the viewer applied in a pipeline as follows:

Source-clip -->Adjustment Layer -->Viewer

However what I see now when I select the individual clip is only:

Source-clip --> Viewer

The adjustment layer grades are being skipped. This was not a problem before, first time I am seeing this issue.

Now when I color correct a clip, I am being deceived because the final look after adjustment layer is not applied in real-time on the viewer - I have to go back to adjustment layer to see the effect of its grades.

Just downloaded 16.2.6 and I am now certain this behavior has changed since 16.2.4. In the latest version NR in adjustment layer is not applied when I playback a selected clip - l get full fps of the timeline and I no longer need to disable NR when grading unless the adjustment clip is selected.

Its funny how such an impactful change can creep in so silently in a new release. So I can no longer use Adjustment layers to tweak the final look for my timeline - because a single setting does not work for all clips, I have to go back to the individual clip to re-tweak it blindly (effectively a hopeless task) if I did anything in the adjustment layer about colors or exposure ...

It's working here in Studio 16.3b2 for Windows.

You don't have Unmix turned on, do you?

Its not Unmix, I checked. I moved everything out of the adjustment layer and disabled it to be safe - for now.

I don't think your issue is related to the software update. I can't replicate your issue no matter how hard I try.

Also check that "Highlight' isn't on. That will have this effect.
