How to change the audio sample rate?

PostSun Aug 30, 2020 12:55 pm

Video I downloaded from Facebook somehow only has a audio sample rate of 24 kHz. When opening it in DaVinci Resolve, the clip would play without sound. How can I resample it to the standard 44.1 kHz or the default 48 kHz?

Thanks.

The easiest would be with an audio utility. Resolve/Fairlight operate at 48kHz by default and upsample 44.1kHz to that. The Studio version supports 96kHz and 192kHz as well.

Any capable audio editor should be able to do your conversion. There's Wave Agent from Sound Devices, BarbaBatch from AudioEase, Rx from Izotope has a good resampler module included, the list goes on. VLC will probably do it too, although I've never tried.

I do read that Resolve suppose to resample anything non-48kHz to 48kHz, not sure why it doesn't do that for these Facebook videos.

I also read that one suppose can change the default 48kHz in the project setting, but I check that it cannot be changed.

With that source material, a consumer editor may be the better tool.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

You can batch sample rate convert in Shutter Encoder. Drop your files onto it, select function as WAV, click on Change Sample Rate To, select a destination folder, and click Start Function.

As Resolve does a sample rate conversion on the fly when using a 44.1 file in the timeline, it's surprising that it doesn't have a standalone sample rate conversion tool as well.
