Hotkeys for solo/mute?

PostThu Sep 10, 2020 7:17 pm

This might seem like a simple question but I feel like I waste a lot of time clicking solo and mute buttons with my mouse for my audio, especially when I have more than three audio tracks and I'm organizing and editing footage. It would be nice to have a hotkey to do so, I can't seem to find one in the preferences.

Hi Jordan,

I don't have the Fairlight Audio Editor, but believe it has dedicated keys for Solo/Mute.

Otherwise, while using the mouse are you aware that you can click and drag to rapidly mute/solo tracks? Keep dragging across all the tracks you want it to apply to.

You can also go into the Index tab and choose tracks to enable/disable tracks (also in groups if desired) in order to help cut down clutter and focus on the specific group of tracks you're working on.

I do agree however that "s" for solo and "m" for mute (or maybe "d" since it also "disables" a clip, and "m" is used for marks) would be useful.

I don't know of key assignments for solo/mute, but I made a short video showing the mouse drag operation as it is counter intuitive.

Just trying to clarify the request, as I might be missing something here.

I have a timeline with 24 channels of audio. Are you saying you want a hot key to solo and or mute each track individually?

ie: I want to solo track 18, so i would hit Shift-p....then i want to solo track 5, so I would hit Shift-U?
or, I want to mute track 12, so I would hit Shift/Alt- N?

That's a lot of hot keys to remember, considering the possibility of a great number of audio tracks at my disposal. Unless i am not understanding the request, i don't see this as a feasible solution.

An audio controller would be the way to go.

Glenn makes a good point here.

+1

How about if one could solo/mute the active track?
Is that a feature request already? ;-)

Assign keybindings via the Keyboard Customisation window to the following Timeline menu commands:
    Mute Track
    Clear Mutes
    Solo Track
    Clear Solo

I tried to assign different key combinations, for "Solo Tracks" and "Clear Solo".
Unfortunately, the combinations don't seem to have any effect at all.

Yes, they are wrongly listed as Application level Timeline shortcuts... but they only work in the Fairlight Page.

Thank you for the hint. Of course it would be awesome if that would be fixed instead of renamed. ;-)

Agreed! Until then, long shot, but if you happen to have an MCU or HUI compatible midi panel available, you should find Edit Page track mutes and solos can be controlled with that.

We are testing the SSL UF8 with Resolve. On the Edit page I can use the SSL to control Solo and Mute (and faders and panning). Of course, a less expensive surface would work the same way.
