Corner pinning

PostTue Sep 15, 2020 7:10 pm

Straightforward warping of photos shot off-axis.

Tried the OFX warper plug-in but couldn’t get past lunging you the reference points - how do you then translate the underlying image?

I’ve kind of got it working with planar tracker (set to corner pin) in fusion - have to crop the input to the planar tracker so the corners are near the photo corners. Again surely I can move the four ref points to the corners of the off-axis photo then manipulate them to four corners of a square?

Thanks for any inpu

color page:
match move OFX
show controls for: positioning
output: positioning refrence
canvas options: corners

bingo!

ignore the tracking and compostiing, just use the corner pin if that's all you need, random youtube "tutorial" on it, seems to cover what you need to know

can't find it in the timeline OFX, only color page

Thanks Dermot, very useful. It's a shame the Fusion Corner Pin effect is not available as an OFX effect.

It would be awesome if one day it were possible to export Fusion effects to Edit in a way that could also read input media.

It's already possible to create "Fusion Generators" and "Fusion Titles", which are Fusion macros which, when written to specific Resolve folders, become available for placing on the Edit page. However these are "write-only" effects; ie they generate output, but they don't take any input.

I hope that one day any kind of Fusion effect, including those that manipulate an input, could be added and controlled via Edit. And I believe it would be straightforward to implement: such a Macro would have a MediaIn node, and when added on Edit, Resolve would route the clip the effect was added to into that MediaIn node, exactly like it does when you place a full Fusion composition on the clip.

That said, it is already very easy to add a Fusion Corner Positioner via an Adjustment Clip, or direct on the clip itself:

Only takes a minute to set up, once you know the name of the Fusion node. And if applied to an Adjustment Clip, it can affect any number of clips; whatever is under the Adjustment Clip.

If it needs to be tracked then that's a bit more work, but still straightforward when you know how.
