Smart Filter bug with RED footage

PostFri Oct 02, 2020 3:05 am

I just noticed that if you try and create a Smart Filter in the Color page for clips with a Video Codec containing "RED" (as is displayed for RED files in the Video Codec field of the Media Pool), that it won't display those clips when the Smart Filter is active.

However, if you search for "R3D" as the video codec, the clips appear as expected. But "R3D" is not the video codec!

Searching for "R3D" as the video codec:

Searching for "RED" as the video codec (no clips appear):

The Media Pool reports the codec for RED files as "RED", so I believe this to be a bug.

This is happening in Resolve 16.2.6 on macOS 10.14.6

Can anyone confirm if this bug has been fixed in the Resolve 17 Public beta?

RED is the company, R3D is the RAW format used. Technically not a 'codec', but R3D is what you should see in the codec field.

If R3D works for Smart Bins, go with it.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Jim,

Please load in a bunch of R3D files into Resolve, and tell me what you see in the "Video Codec" column.

R3D is not a codec. It's a container format.

REDCODE is the codec.

Regardless, the behavior of the Smart Bin filter is still incorrect.

This issue is still occurring in Resolve 17.2.2

This issue occurs both in Smart Filters, as well as Smart Bins in the Media Pool.
