Clicks in Final Audio Render after Elastic Wave

PostFri Oct 16, 2020 11:09 am

After editing audio in Fairlight to line up a few sounds I get clicking/popping sounds coming through in the final render. Playback while in the edit or fairlight tabs does not seem to show the sound defects. It seems to occur in random locations even when the section of audio was not edited with elastic wave . For example, Elastic wave may be used at time code 00:00:10 but the effect will happen later say ate 00:01:20.

In thks audio:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KFx80W ... sp=sharing

there is a cyclical click that starts about 7 seconds in and lasts until 11 second. You will also hear these clicks at various points before and after.

Setup is Resolve Studio 16 (Latest build) Windows 10 OS, Intel i7, 32 GB Ram, SSD+HDD

Any Ideas?

What's the source audio being used?
My Biases:

You NEED training.

Do bounces of media with Elastic Wave also include artefacts?

Yes, when I Bounce the audio (Composite of 7 individual audio tracks) the clicking is still there. Verified it is not in the source material.

Can u post a dropbox link to your source clip and the Resolve drp for the project that used that clip and renders the click, so we can try to repo?

I removed a few of the tracks that were muted as this is a mix that has a lot going on. I left a couple in so it was easy for you to see. Also there are a few of the bounces in where I was experimenting.. Tracks are clearly labeled and the part that has the most trouble has a range defined.

Just to follow up on this in case others have the same Issue--
I am compiling a video With Visual elements of a person conducting, a smart clip with JPGs of the score, and multiple audio/video files of people singing.

Audi sources in the project include:
[*]Audio/Video File H.264 encoded, 29.97 FPS, 48khz Liner PCM Audio, 2 Ch
[*]Audio Only File (Piano), Liner PCM Audio 44.1 Khz 2 Ch
[*]A/V H.264 30 FPS, AAC 44.1Khz 2 Ch BOTH Audio and Video Muted
[*]A/V H.264 30 FPS, AAC 44.1Khz 2 Ch BOTH Audio and Video Muted
[*]A/V H.264 MP4 15 FPS, AAC 48 KHZ 2 Ch -- This is the track where the Elastic wave edits are a problem

Yes, i know there is quite a mix of things here, but I am not the one recording them. Resolve is supposed to handle the differences in encoding formats for me. All works fine until I added elastic wave to the last track.

Thanks all for the help.

Hi! I'm using the 17 beta version and experiencing the same issue.
While building a video with multiple wind instruments playing together I'm using elastic wave to sync small out of tempo plays. If I disable the tracks where I used it the clicking disappears.
I tried to move the keyframes on silence parts of the track and seems to improve slightly the situation but not consistently (so maybe it's not a good approach).
Does anyone else have any news?
Elastic wave is such a nice tool but this issue makes it unusable...

Is this on Windows? A system spec may be useful: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=90190

What is the source footage? Frame rates of the source?

sorry, I'm quite new here on the forum and hadn't seen yet the guidelines.
I'm on Windows 10 (unfortunately an old 17.09) and using Davinci Resolve 17.0B build 15 (newest one I think).
The pc has these hardware specs: Intel Core i7-920 @2.67GHz, Asrock X58 deluxe Motherboard, RAM 18GB DDR3 Triple channel 1600MHz, GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4GB).
Davinci Resolve is installed on the system drive SSD (intel 530) while all the footage and audio tracks are stored on a Toshiba XG5 NVMe ssd.
The source footage is a mix similar to the one from spiritsong few post up. The videos are almost all H.264 with AAC audio at 30 or 29.97fps, then I have in the mix a couple of tracks with Cineform video and Wave audio but doesn't seem relevant to the issue.

I think to have some more useful information on this topic:
I've exported all the audio tracks in my timeline to work a bit more on them on Reaper (a DAW).
One of the tracks where I used elastic wave is a timpani regular beat. Here, while zooming in to see the waveform, I noticed a kind of discontinuity in the wave similar to an abrupt phase change, that seems to have a periodicity of 1/30 of second (the timeline and it's linked video are at 30fps) and this is not visible in the original file.
My interpretation is that the audio track corresponding to each frame is not stretched but "sliced" and then "cropped" or "enlarged" to match the frame time resulting from the speed change.
I mean, if the audio was stretched the result is a pitch shift so this looks like a reasonable approach. I don't know how feasible could be adapting this method to avoid these artefacts.
In the image I tried to visualize the artefact I was speaking about:
