Hi,

I just downloaded DaVinci Resolve 16, but I am having trouble installing it. Everything seems to start working fine, but after I start the installation wizard it runs for a few seconds, then tells me "Installation wizard ended prematurely" then proceeds to say how if I want to try again later I can just reopen the wizard. I have tried multiple times and I get the same result every time.

This is my first download of a DaVinci software, so I do not have any old versions that are interfering with it. My computer also should not be a problem; it is a 1 month old top of the line Alienware with

Intel i9-10900F
32GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER
64-bit Windows 10

Any help will be appreciated.

Did you download from the Blackmagic website, and did you unzip it before trying to install?

Are you installing it in the default C: drive installation location?

And which version are you attempting to install?

I just downloaded it off of the front page of the website today, so I am using the newest version of 16. Yes, I have unzipped the file before I downloaded it. I am downloading it to the default C: drive location.

You un-zip it once you have downloaded it onto your computer, then install onto you system drive.

Sorry I misspoke. That is what I have been trying. I unzip the file after I download it, then run the installation wizard.

Do you have any third-party security software installed? Anti-virus, Firewall, etc?

If so, Uninstall them. If it's not too late, try and get a refund.

Use only the included Windows Security.

There is no third party security system installed. Only Windows Security.

If I try to download any other software it works fine. DaVinci Resolve is the only program that I am having trouble with.

Virtualization isn't enabled? (Hyper-V)

I just checked and virtualization is enabled. Would this even be a problem though since I can still install other software programs?

For the record, you don't have to unzip anything. Just double click the zip archive you downloaded and double click the .exe file. Unlikely that will solve your problem, but still...

I've seen a lot of reports about issues with Virtualization on.

I need virtualization on due to the server. Do you know if the issues come only during installation or simply running the program. I ask because perhaps I could disable it just to install the program then reenable it.

My philosophy is to run software like Resolve on a system dedicated to editing. Perform other tasks on a separate machine.

I was afraid you would say that. Unfortunately multiple machines is not an option.

Hyper-V can cause Resolve launch issues on some systems. I would not expect it to affect installation of Resolve.

Please run System Information, do a File - Save, which will create a .NFO file, and send us the file.

It is telling me that the file size is too large to upload.

You can try zipping the file to make it smaller.

But normally, post files on a file sharing site and provide a link to the file here. If you are a new forum user, it may not let you post a URL. If that happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Also make sure the link does not require access credentials.

As I am new to forums and in interest of time, I was able to use a zip file. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience.

It looks like it thinks Resolve is installed.

If you go into the Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features panel, do you see DaVinci Resolve in the list?

If so, right click it and uninstall it.

Then try running the installer again and see what it does. If you get an error, grab a screen shot of the error and send that.

This did not work. Here is the error that I received.

Please send us this file:

c:\users\mfox\appdata\local\Temp\ResolveInstallLog.txt

Zip it first.

Is that possibly your scenario?

To be honest that last post has gone past my computer knowledge and abilities, but from what I can tell it does sound like that could be the same problem. However, I'm not sure how to go about solving it.

Hoping I can resurrect this thread; I seem to be having a similar issue.

I ran the installation executable for DaVince Resolve 17. While the installer file now informs me that DaVince Resolve has been installed, I don't see it in my list of apps. I do see: Blackmagic RAW Player, Blackmagic RAW Speedtest, DaVince Control Panels. But Resolve? I don't even have any software that begins with the letter "R."

I tried using some of the advice in this thread. For example, I looked for the ResolveInstallLog.txt. That doesn't exist in my temp files.

Not sure where I should look next.

I assume you are using Windows 10?

If so, do you have this folder:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

If so, double click the Resolve.exe file to launch Resolve and see if that works.
