Resolve Fusion merge inconsistency with text

In Resolve 16.2.7, Fusion page:
* when I have a MediaIn -> Crop -> Merge foreground (where the background input is a Background node with full transparency 1920x1080), the result is the cropped section of the image surrounded by transparency to the 1920x1080 size, exactly as expected.

* when I instead have a Text node with the Background color (on the Layout tab) set to black -> Crop -> Merge foreground (same transparent background input), the result is the text but with a fully black image; there is no transparency around the cropped area to pass through to future merge nodes.

This difference (specifically, the merge behavior with a cropped text-with-background-color) feels like a bug... is there a setting that I might be missing?

My workaround is to put a mask on the merge node that matches the crop size, but I don't think that should be necessary.

Thank you.

I'm not seeing this in my head. Can you show the node tree?

Sure. The first image below shows the MediaIn line with the merge node displayed (viewer2). The transparency around the cropped image is visible.

The second image shows the Text line with its merge node displayed. No transparency around the cropped image. The text node has its background alpha at 1.

The transparent background is 1920x1080. The crop in both cases is much smaller (e.g. 265x194, or 800x390). I believe that the 2nd image should show the text "Testing", with a black background around it to the crop dimension, and then transparency beyond that to the 1920x1080, just as occurs with the MediaIn line.

(the node trees are included - just scroll the image down)

That's weird. I'm no Fusion expert but this seems like a bug.

Another workaround would be to add the background colour with a background node instead of via the layout tab.
