Wanting to upgrade to the Studio version. Uninstalled the free version per instructions. Downloaded the paid version. Installed the paid Studio version. It asks for an Activation Key? How do I pay? I can't find anywhere on the Blackmagic website to pay for the software and get an activation key.

You've beaten me Blackmagic Design well done! I can't figure out how to buy your product.

I had the same issue. Of course you find that information here. But it didn't even occur to me that in 2020 you couldn't purchase a software license online and download it. You have to have it sent to via the good old mail service. Took me an hour or so to figure that out.

I'm guessing Blackmagic is OK with getting fewer new customers because of that as long as that their vendors are happy. Curious if they are ever going to change that.

You will need to wait for either the dongle or the card with the activation code printed on it to arrive via the post.

Or if you have any plans to buy one of their cameras, the card also comes in the box.

Dont agree, I purchased the serial Resolve version from Atreid (a french online store) and I received my serial number on a pdf card some hours after. I had to wait for the Fusion dongle.

Long story short is you just need to find a reseller that lets you purchase online. I got mine from the following vendor and it took 1 business day to get it via email:

Thanks all. They closed the Fry's Electronics by me, otherwise that would be the only store that still sells software that I am aware of . I could have driven down there and bought a retail package full of CDs or perhaps 5 1/4" floppies to install.

Well that was a bust. The Online Resellers, like Core, are out of stock on the Activation Code versions. Can anyone confirm that if I order from Adorama Camera or an online seller that the activation code will still work with the new versions? The reason I ask is that the online websites show Resolve 14. I don't want to pay for express shipping only to get an activation code that won't work with the current version of the software.

Are the license codes or dongles from private parties on eBay transferrable?

I wouldn't trust anything like this from eBay but that's just me. Once you get an activation code it is good for life as far as I know. I recommend just calling Adorama or BH and verifying with them before placing your order, they probably haven't bothered to update their website.

Maybe you should reinstall the free version until you get your hands on the license. It was pretty painful for me too, fortunately Core had them in stock.

Some European retailers will open your product and send the code via email.

I'm not a fan of that option. One unscrupulous employee and who knows where that code ends up.

Better to wait a couple days and get the unopened product.

My thoughts.

The saga continues. I have a VIP account at Adorama. When you go to order online (says in stock), they tell you to contact their video person. No response to email or voice mail (Adorama is normally terrific).

Thanks for BH Photo link, ordered there. Should be here next Tuesday. If you read in the papers that I "committed suicide", I didn't. It was BMD taking me out for getting past their ordering gauntlet.

Is there ANY way to upgrade to the Studio version NOW? All resellers say out of stock.

Does anyone know when it will be in stock?

I really think Blackmagic is making a big mistake by not offering Studio 16 while we await 17. Those needing Studio now are stuck with the free version an unable to perform needed operations.

Very irritating when a company apparently doesn't want our money. Please make keys available quickly.
