DaVinci Resolve 16 not opening

Hi, every time I try to open the Davinci Resolve application, nothing happens. It immediately brings a pop-up on my mac that says Davinci Resolve has quit unexpectedly. This has been happening for the past 2 hours when I was using it perfectly fine the same day. The last thing it said was it couldn't save my project then unexpectedly quit and now it won't open. I've tried restarting my laptop, uninstalling and reinstalling the same/different versions of Davinci and nothing. I've even read some of the other forums saying to send Logs but when I open the Capture Logs it says "Not authorized to send Apple events to Finder." Please someone send help.

I can see you are on a Mac. Is this Resolve from the App store or BMD web site?
Can you detail your mac specs?
OS version?
Which version of Resolve are you trying to start?

The FAQs above list how to generate a log from the BMD web site version if that helps?

Having same problem. I need to resolve this problem so I can get my Activations reset, so I can deal, with the original problem of Project Server disappearing and is now apparently a separate installer, although no one seems to know where it is. If you fix this issue or know where I can find that installer I'd be grateful.

@Nitya: If you are using Catalina or Big Sur, you'll get that error when you run CaptureLogs, but it still creates the log file on the Desktop. So take a look on the Desktop, and I expect you'll see the log file.

The file will be named something like: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-xxxxxxxx.tgz.

@Tom: If you've got to have the Resolve Project Server app, then stay with 17b7 for the time being.

Send us your logs to help with the startup issue.

Open Finder, navigate to /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve and run CaptureLogs. Ignore the error message, if you get one.

I will try to uninstall 17b8 and return to 17b7 but when I was on 17b7 I can't connect to my project server. I will send you the logs and hopefully you can help. Where do I send the logs?

I have uninstalled 17b8 and installed 17.0b7. When I open the Project Server I get this error:

You put the logs on a file sharing site, and put a link to the logs here. New users can't post URLs. If that's an issue for you, put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Is the PostgreSQL database on a different system? If so, what type of system, and what version of PostgreSQL is it running.

Send a screen shot of the PostgreSQL Server that shows the databases.

Thanks for helping me. Been at this all day!

I have the app installed back to 17.0b7. Both the Disk and Postgre databases on the same system.

Local IP of course is 127.0.0.1.
The IP I was accessing the Project Server at was. 192.168.1.151 which is this machines Ethernet IP. That worked for a long time.

When I open DR, here is my list of databases:

Somehow, you have 3 db's with the same name, resolve, at 3 different IP addresses.

But that shouldn't matter for selecting the 151 db. And that was working a few days ago.

The most obvious issue would be PostgreSQL not running.

Open the Mac Activity Monitor app. In the Activity Monitor menus at the top, select View, then select All Processes.

Sort by the Process Name column, then scroll down to the p's. If PostgreSQL is running, you will see several postgres processes running. Do you?

If that looks OK, then open the Mac Terminal app. In the terminal window, type this:

ping localhost<RETURN> (<RETURN> means to press the RETURN key after entering ping localhost)

What happens? If you get a repeating line of 64 bytes from... it's working and you can use Ctrl-c to stop it.

As for Activity Monitor, No PostgreSQL of any kind running....

Ping for localhost looks alright:

So it looks like the DB just isn't running?

If PostgreSQL isn't running, you can't access a PostgreSQL database.

What's been done to your system between now and the last time it worked?

And to be clear, you won't see PostgreSQL in Activity Monitor.

You will see: postgres

And there will be multiple postgres processes if PostgreSQL is running.

It was working fine this morning. DR crashed. I rebooted and we are where we are now. I couldn't access the DB.

The IP is the same. but perhaps something got corrupted in the crash?

RE:Activity Monitor and Postgre vs PostgreSQL, I didn't see anything that had Post, gre or SQL in it.

Update:

I rebooted the machine, opened Activity Monitor and waited until I saw the postgre process running. After that I started Project Server. After a long wait I received the same error message that the db isn't running or the password is wrong. I checked right then in Activity Monitor and postgre wasn't running anymore...
