I am having the problem of "Unsupported GPU Processing Mode" during startup with Beta 4,5,6, and 7 of Davinci Resolve 17. It is OK on Beta 3. I have uploaded the capture files with Beta 7 to:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LvBRAN ... sp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1b00KPG ... sp=sharing

I have a Windows Desktop with Windows 8.1, AMD Ryzen 7 1700, Nvidia Quadro M2000. Again, it works work with Beta3, but failed on all new releases.

Thank you,
Tong

Windows 8.1 isn't supported - and you may not have the latest drivers available for your graphics card.

Please check the end of this post for minimum requirements for DaVinci Resolve 17 Betas

same issue on Win10 / Nvidia RTX 3070. Beta 6 worked, upgraded to 7 and now also get this. Something has changed since the last beta.

Just downloading beta 7 again in case I missed the silent update, will report back.

.. in my case it was a graphics driver issue, I downloaded & installed the latest Nvidia Studio driver, and now it works again.

Hi, I'm joining in.
I downloaded 17 beta today (2021-02-06) and get the same popup during launch, unable to run the app.

- I'm running Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS.
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (nividia-driver-460)
- I used the latest version of makeresolvedeb to get it ready for a Debian based installation
- installation worked flawless
- app doesn't start

What system information should I provide exactly, since I have no Windows System Information to conveniently export from?

Mmm, you can create a bundle from the help menu but if the app doesn't start, it won't really do you much good. You can start with :

Code: Select all
~/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/logs/ResolveDebug.txt

Can you also post the result of :

Code: Select all
apt list --installed | grep 460

To see all the components installed. Because I think by default it doesn't install the compute stuff.
Among others you can check for :

Code: Select all
nvidia-compute-utils-460
libnvidia-compute-460
Resolve Studio - Ryzen 5800X3D - AMD RX6600 / NVidia RTX 4070 (switching between the 2) - Linux

Current status: Running.

What I did:
In order to best debug the setup process I decided to manually remove absolutely everything that had "blackmagic", "davinci" and/or "resolve" in the name (be carefull to only delete the "resolve" matches that are related to blackmagic. Ubuntu has a lot more files and demons called "*resolve*", so watch out). Every icon, every stray config, just everything.
I did nothing else other than completely cleaning my machine from old installation files. My drivers were already fine, nvidia-compute-utils-460, libnvidia-compute-460 among others were already installed, full output
~$ apt list --installed | grep 460

I installed the .deb that was generated by makeresolvedeb_1.4.4_multi.sh to start with a clean installation and now it worked out of the box.

So my intermediate conclusion is that the installer has a problem with other installed versions.
I have no long term testing to report but at least the app now starts out of the box.

In addition to the laptop display, you appear to have 2 additional displays connected to some sort of DisplayLink USB Device. It appears those are interfering with the Resolve GPU detect process.

Remove those and see if that helps. If not, send another log and NFO with those removed after a Resolve launch attempt.

It says "Unsupported GPU Processing Mode" and I have no idea how to fix it when I press "Update Configuration".

@Ellie:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Ellie, you could also try this. In Preferences/Memory and GPU try deselecting Auto and manually set the GPU settings.

Just to add my input - I got the "Unsupported GPU Processing Mode" bug also upon updating to Beta 9. I tried:

- updating the NVIDIA GPU Drivers to 416.4 Game Ready, then studio drivers
- editing config.dat to add Local.GPU.Mode = OpenCL

with no success. But uninstalling, and then reinstalling Resolve Studio 17 Beta 7 (
17.0B Build 23) resolves the GPU mode bug. It seems your problem is in that Beta 9 update (Build 33) somewhere

You absolutely DO NOT want to do this:

Yeah, selecting OpenCL on a nvidia card is ... weird.

I'd just look at the ResolveDebug.txt debug file created when Resolve starts, it's usually pretty explicit about what's going wrong during the init of the GPU ...

It appears to be an issue with your AMD GPU driver. All I can suggest is that you try different drivers until you find one that works.

It appears you are using the currently recommended driver for the Radeon VII card.

In the AMD Drivers area for that card, you can select the Optional 21.2.3 driver and see what it does.

If you select the Older Drivers link, you get several newer ones than the 20.11.2 driver. You can try all those.

You could also try the Enterprise 20Q4 driver.

I don't have access to this card, so I can't tell you for sure what works. Maybe someone else on here with a Radeon VII can tell you what they are using in Windows that works.

Found this thread so thought I might chime in.

I'm experiencing the exact same error, my current configuration is the following :

Windows 10

Gigabyte Designare EX x299
Intel i9-9000x
32Gb DDR4 Ram
AMD Sapphire RX Vega 64
Resolve Dongle

I've already tested all the possible solutions highlighted in here but none works. Already updated drivers, flashed the GPU, bios, etc. Checked firewalls, and everything possible since I'm a tech savy person I'm used to debug these kind of situations.

Reverting to latest 16 release just works fine, both 17 and 17.1 updates are the ones causing trouble.

So I guess at least for me the problem doesn't lie in my computer but on those two releases.

None the less I've gathered the logs if someone from the BMD team wants to check them here:

Re: Unsupported GPU Processing Mode Resolve 17 Public Beta

PostThu Mar 11, 2021 12:47 am

Hello there!
I have the same problem and can't run Resolve 17 at all.

Problem: I get "Unsupported GPU processing mode" screen at startup, when in GPU settings, my GPU is greyed out.

My setup:
10980XE, Radeon 5600XT /also failed with RX 580, 64 Ram, decklink mini monitor 4k, Windows 10 pro

I can run however Resolve 16 with no problems:

I have tried so far:
-Changing the GPU, from 580 to 5600XT
-Using updated Radeon Pro drivers
-Downgrading Radeon Software to 20.11.2 (also made a proper cleanup with AMD cleanup utility)
-Editing config.dat file with Local.GPU.Mode = OpenCL (and also tried = Unknown)
-Installing 17.1 , 17.0 and 17 beta 2
-Unplugging all USB
-Disabling Windows Firewall and all network security.

I'm struggling a lot please help out!! This is even worse because I have work to do and I can't have 16 and 17 at the same time so I need to be installing and uninstalling back and forth.

Thanks in advance!! Greetings from Mexico.

No dice, but latest 16 release works perfectly.

Me too, just tried with 20.Q4 and the same problem exists, it's weird that the GPU appears greyed out.
It specifically reads under GPU configuration:

()
name: AMD RADEON RX 5600 XT
memory: -0.0 GB
Type: Discrete
Details: Main Display GPU, Unknown not supported

and it is greyed out, so can't be selected.

Hope this helps. I've seen this is a common issue in various groups! I hope you can find a solution soon!

Hi Agustin,

Can you please try to use the AMD Cleanup Utility (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601) and then re-install the driver and see if that helps.

Dear Rohit,

That didn't work, I had already tried something similar with another program that wipes every GPU driver from the computer and had the same result.

When I enter the configuration it displays my GPU with -0,0 VRAM which is completely odd, every other software detects my GPU and its VRAM perfectly. Fusion 17 works perfectly too.

So I'm not into Resolve code of course but I think the problem might be on your end guys :-/

Thank you for helping me with this... it's a real bummer to not be able to use R17 since it has all the HDRI controls and I need those.

Still no joy with my system and the Unsupported GPU Processing Mode - now Resolve Studio 17.1, Running 461.72 NVIDIA drivers for 2 x 1070 Geforce 3d cards.

Link contains the logs and NFO file.

That link only has the Resolve log, no NFO.

There is a message in the log about NVLINK using a specific PCI address and applying a GPU fix. Not something I've seen before.

Is there anything unusual about your hardware setup and where the GTX1070 is installed?

Hello I just updated to the 17.1 version.

I get all the times the "Unsupported GPU Processing mode message".

Here the log file from Resolve and the information system file from Win.

Please help me out since I have the operation f my facility stuck because of this issue.

I was going to add a me-too to this thread, then I managed to fix the issue.
At least for a Radeon R9 280 card.
I was on Radeon software 21.3.2(latest) and Resolve 17.1.1 was failing with GPU error
I downgraded to Radeon software 21.3.1, Resolve 17.1.1 still failing on GPU error
I downgraded again to Radeon version 21.2.3 (released 2/17/2021) resolve 17.1.1 working normally again!
(filename downloaded from ATI was non-whql-radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-21.2.3-win10-64bit-feb22.exe)

I noted in the failing GPU settings dialog it was showing the R9 card grayed out and as having -0.0G memory.
Seems there is a issue with the latest Radeon software 21.3.x releases.

Hope this helps.

I've uploaded the latest davinci resolve log, nvidia system info as well as the windows system info. Here's the link
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

I've updated the nvidia drivers, updated Resolve to the latest 17.1.1 and still no luck on the Unsupported GPU Processing mode bug - is there a setting I need to change? I'm not sure about the "GPU fix" - I don't remember doing anything to it.

My first guess would be the evil Nahimic driver associated with your Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer.

Open Task Manager and try (as a test) killing anything Nahimic related in the Process and Services tab.

Make sure they don't respawn. Then see if Resolve will launch.

Tried killing all nahimic drivers and restarting - still no joy. Same error - I've posted a new Davinci resolve log 20210904_213645.zip on the google drive, hopefully containing more useful info

What would be much more helpful is to repeat the Nahimic killing process, and then when Resolve doesn't launch, generate a System Information .NFO file and provide that.

Done. Can you please recheck the link - the new nfo file has "-02" appended to the filename.

Thanks. Very odd.

You don't have the dual GTX 1070's configured in SLI mode, do you? If so, turn that off, and see if that helps. Resolve does not support SLI (or Crossfire with AMD GPUs).

Resolve sees both the 1070's, but the one with the display connected to it is not reporting proper capabilities, for some reason.

If you don't have SLI configured, move the display to the other 1070, and see what that does. And if that doesn't help, generate another Resolve log and send that, so we can see if the capability reporting issue moves to the other 1070.
