Just ordered Studio, impatiently waiting for it.

I'm a novice Video editor, but I must admit I am quite impressed by how easy it is to pickup and do things
! I'm also very happy that BMD supports Linux as a platform since that's the only OS I use :)

Cheers !

That's not really a 'compliment' is it, Sean.

Maybe start a new thread for that?

Can I compliment hardware? The Speed Editor is just suuuper smexy and the low low price of free with Studio upgrade just makes it *chef's kiss*. The smooth weighted action of the rubberized knob alone is worth the price of admission. The satisfying clicky keys are icing on the cake. I was concerned about the device being plastic but it's clear that attention was paid to making it feel substantial, and I want to let you know you nailed it.

HUGE round of applause for the team for speeding up the collaboration. I mean seriously- it went from being totally unusable (ten minutes to load a project file, and then another ten to load a sequence) to a dream to work with (under ten seconds max) and very stable.

Nice work Blackmagic.

the keyboard shortcut to enable the second screen is working in beta 9. It's just a minor detail, but I'm glad that it works now. I use this quite often, and it's good to have a programmable hardware controller with these shortcuts, to quickly switch the extended video monitor on and off, instead of using the mouse all the time. I find it also good when the customer sits next to me, when she or he can see that I have full control over the software.

In detail: when there is a dual-monitor setup, the second monitor can be used for the video output only. Workspace -> Video Clean Feed -> Ctrl 0 and Ctrl 2 (or other number, depending on the computer setup).

Many thanks to the developer team.

Edit: I was wrong, there probably was no change in beta 9. I just found out that the second monitor cannot be switched on in the Edit and in the Color page. In all other pages it is possible. It can be switched off (Ctrl 0) in all pages. That's what did confuse me - I was accidently on a different page than Edit or Color, and thought the behavior was improved.

Adding my 2cents here also. Resolve 17 is really amazing so far. The new tools are fantastic (e.g. Color Warper) are powerful and produce great results. I'd love to see some refinement to the UI sizing / scaling (layout is aok in my book) where the font size and padding is reduced by 20 - 30%. This would make a big difference to the user experience IMO.

Congratulations to the whole team!
We have dared to work on a commercial production with beta 9 and are continuing now with the release version, working with the iMac 2017 and monitoring via Mini Monitor. No serious flaws until now! Hoping for a release on M1 too.

Thank you for the hard work.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Things I love about version 17:

- I bought a speed editor and I love it! I assemble all my projects with it. I even use the wheel and some of the insert keys on the edit page. Could still use some tweaks, but it's definitely a win.

- The color warper is actually really useful. It's so nice for moving skin tone to exactly where I want it. I also realized you can saturate and desaturate, not just adjust the hue = fantastic.

- The new inspector is really good.

- Just used the fusion shape nodes on a recent project and they made life so easy!

I can not believe that you guys added that "auto align clips" based on wave form!!!!!

I'm so freaking happy! I edit a lot of music videos and this will be a game change to sync audios in the timeline.

You guys are awesome!

The lovely the new features released for Studio 17, the main feature I like is create proxy media. The only problem faced is while creating a proxy media , we are kinda tied up as we are unable to work on the Editing part like working on Fusion. We need to wait for the Proxy media to be completed. It would be great if the proxy media can run @ the background so that we can proceed with other works on Studio.

Hope BMD implements to your feature request

Thank you BMD

This is a good and proper version at launch, BMD. Congrats :-D

I've toyed with the Linux version thus far. It had me at Cursor Zoom. No issues yet, existing v16 projects import nicely. v17 seems fine for production use as it is, which is nice since Cursor Zoom.

All this praise for an NLE that still doesn’t show audio waveforms and is exponentially slower than FCPX. At least it doesn’t suck as badly as Premier.

Hello Everyone.

I want to take a moment to thank the development team at Blackmagic for their efforts in building such an amazing piece of software. I have used Resolve since version 12.5 and it has grown into an awesome piece of kit.

Every day I find some feature I hadn't discovered before, which makes my workflow just that little bit easier.

Kudos for:-
Anim Curves
Roll & Crawl (I bet that has been there a while but Wow!)
Organizing the font list
Thumbnails making a return in Fusion Tools (Effects Library)

I could go on.

I recently discovered how to make control panels & drop downs menus without leaving the software. So less need to tinker with the LUA .setting file when I want to add a feature.

I wanted to let you know and I am sure I speak for others that DaVinci Resolve Studio & Fusion Studio blows me away every day.

Thank You.

Re: Compliments on Resolve 17

I've been editing for over 20 years on various NLE systems, starting with Final Cut. For the past 10 years I have been using Adobe Premiere. In the past year I have become so fed up of the constant crashing, slowness, random errors, poor support and limitations of Adobe Premiere I have been looking for another editing program. I tried Final Cut Studio and was shocked at how basic it has become. I had heard of DaVinci but none of the comparisons I had seen on Youtube comparing it to Premier did it any favours. So I thought I was stuck with Premier.

Editing had become an onerous chore and I no longer had the enthusiasm for it. But it is an essential part of my job. Quite frankly I dreaded having to deal with all the stress and problems I encountered whenever doing a complex edit on Premiere.

I downloaded Resolve 16 reluctantly, because like most people, I couldn't believe anything really good could be free.

How wrong I was.

I've been using it for 2 days. And all I can say is that it gives me the same excitement I got the first time I used NLE software. I can't even describe how exhilarating it is to be editing on this software without sounding like I'm being paid to say it.

I'll be buying the full version more out of gratitude, than necessity as I know I've barely scratched the surface of what the free version can do.

I am indebted to the makers of this product. You deserve to enjoy the utmost success for what you have created. You've certainly made me very happy and we've never even met!

I just wanted to extend a very heartfelt "thank you" to the Black Magic team for keeping a free version of Resolve available! It's been a rough year+ for our studio (like countless others) and having the ability to work with the DR suite for free and/or without subscription is extremely helpful. Thankfully we picked up a few (multi cam) productions this month and the new version makes the workflow that much easier.

As soon as (if) we start booking projects again I will most certainly be investing in the Studio version along with at least 1-2 BM cameras and maybe a switcher and speed editor. :o

Thank you again! :D

Also love the grading GUI refinements (no more switching between color temperature and saturation etc.)

And Nearest Neighbor rescaling for pixel art, enlarged screenshots etc :P

It's the small things too that make a big difference.
