HEVC h.265 in Davinci Resolve

PostWed Nov 11, 2020 4:09 pm

Is it possible to edit 8-bit h.265 MP4 files in the free version of Resolve? I understand the Studio version is required for 10-bit, but not sure about 8-bit h.265.

Did a software update on my Mavic Air 2 and did not notice that it defaulted to h.265 encoding. Shot a lot of video that I need to edit, but it all shows up as "Media Offline" in Resolve. Previously I was using h.264 and did not have any problem editing the footage. All files play perfectly in any Windows 10 program.

Otherwise I guess I'll need to transcode a large number of files. Any suggestion on what software to use to do this on Windows 10?

Hardware:
Ryzen 9 3900X
Nvidia RTX 2070 Super

I think so. Its free so download and try. Been a while since I used the free version, but I think I remember v15 adding this in for Windows even though it wasn't announced.

Will perform terribly in the free version, though, due to no hardware decode support.

If its 10-bit HEVC then I don't think it will work. Have you checked the files to confirm the bit depth?

The free version of Resolve uses an OS installed codec for HEVC. You can pay $0.99 in the Microsoft Store or search Google for a free version.

(At one time, the free HEVC extension for Windows was in the Microsoft Store, but it has been recently removed. The free one you can now find with Google is the same one that was in the Store)
Microsoft Windows 10 Pro x64
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700, 3.40GHz, 32.0 GB
MB: MSI, BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. A.60, 12/17/2015
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960, 2Gb
Resolve 19.1.3(Free)

This worked perfectly, thank you!

I didn't think to check Windows codecs because the files were playing fine in other programs. I guess they were using their own codecs.
