Virus warning when installing Resolve 17

PostWed Nov 11, 2020 6:55 pm

When installing Davince Resolve 17 I get two virus warnings from Avast (translated from the Dutch warning):
1: DPDecoder.exe is blocked because the file is infected with IDP.Generic.
2: DaVinciPanelDeamon.exe is blocked because the file is infected with IDP.Generic.

Avast put these files into quarantine.

Should I act further on this warning?
Should other people be warned of this threat?
Best regards,
Gert Jan

Gert,

I would like to check if the installer was downloaded from the Blackmagic website and not a third party website.

Thanks

Thank you for your concern Shrinivas,
The file was downloaded from the Blackmagic website indeed.

By the way, I read about false warnings for the IDP.generic infection, this could be the case here too. I also put the question in the Avast forum.
Best regards,
Gert Jan

They've released a silent Build 7 that corrects this for me. Just re-download the installer to get it. In the meantime, this file can be added as an exception to Avast.

Now this issue with respect to DPDecoder.exe/IDP.Generic is appearing for me again in Build 10. I had to make the .exe an exception.

The threat is usually categorized as false positive detection. This means that the antivirus program that you’ve installed has detected a legitimate or harmless file as risky and either removed or quarantined it. In any case, the detections end up leading to the removal of significant system files or data. But not every threat that is detected is a false positive.

I have found a solution to solve this error. The threat is usually categorized as false positive detection. I recommend not using third party security software. The built-in Windows Security is sufficient.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
