AVI import now only for Studio?

Has importing .avi clips into a project been moved to 'Studio only' status? I have no serious complaint as I want to get 17 Studio and the Quick Editor in the deal but obviously that doesn't happen overnight and I ran into a severe problem this afternoon when putting together our online church service (which brings together contributions from up to half a dozen different contributors every week, including one who always sends me .avi files.
Am I missing something here?
Also, how can I stop video and audio components being automatically linked when you drag clips onto the timeline? I have several people who I need to slip a few frames back and forth routinely to sync, and having to unlink each clip before I can do that is an extra chore I don't really need. Is there a preference I can alter to have things return to the way they were in 16, in that respect?

The chain icon to the right of the magnet in the toolbar will help with the Link issue.
You can also temporarily unlink a clip by selecting it with ALT pressed.

Jim, thanks very much for that tip. I'm still very much learning!
Mark, I'm afraid I'm not able to tell you. Again, I have too little experience. I edit a church service together every week and one contributor always sends her contribution over as an .avi. Up until now, it's just slotted into the timeline without drama, but now I have a watermark over it. I don't think she's changed anything her end and I certainly haven't here, so I'm a bit foxed.

Aidan,
Check to see if the AVI contains 'interlaced' video.
If so, it will watermark by default in DR17.
But you can turn off the watermark by going to 'Clip Attributes' and selecting 'Progressive' under the 'Field Dominance' drop-down.

Hi,
In Media Page, under Media storage, AVI files are not seen while browsing folders.
So they can't be imported.
This is small videos from night vision camera.
DVR 17b6 Studio (build 18).

Alain,
Can you check what the AVI file's encoding format is?
Can you check if that format is listed in the
supported codec list please? The second column (file extension) should help isolate AVIs.
Regards
Shrinivas

To find out what it is, use MediaInfo (free) and check the second tab.

Thanks everyone for your help. For those of you still struggling, the de-interlace suggestion worked fine for me. However, this is now no longer an issue anyway personally, as I have finally taken the leap and upgraded to Studio, taking advantage of the introductory offer on the Speed Editor.

Hi,
Rather than to provide false or incomplete informations, here is an AVI file for tests.

That's a Motion JPG clip, not supported in Resolve.

Use your favorite ffmpeg GUI app to rewrap the video and change the audio to PCM 24bit 48KHz sample rate into a quicktime mov file.
