Request for Resolve 17 to use a supported PostgreSQL version

PostWed Nov 18, 2020 12:50 am

PostgreSQL 9.5 is EOL on February 11, 2021, which is right around the corner.

I know DaVinci Resolve 12.5.3 was when the switch from PostgreSQL 8.4 to 9.5 occurred, but that was on Oct 28, 2016, and 8.4 had already been EOL on July 24, 2014. It seems that the forcing mechanism was the release of macOS 10.12 Sierra on September 20, 2016, which wouldn't support 8.4.

My request for 17 would be to upgrade to a supported version of PostgreSQL without the gap. PostgreSQL 13 would be the most future-proof: EOL on November 13, 2025.

Bumping this topic because I see that the DaVinci Resolve Project Server App, both 17.0 from Feb. 25th, 2021 and 17.1 from today are both still shipping 9.5.19.

However, 9.5.25 shipped on Feb. 11th, and it's now EOL.

This is concerning for all who have Internet-connected workstations. 9.5 is EOL and unsupported. Switching to 13 would be the most future-proof now, which will be supported into 2025.

And also add a Linux distro which is not EOL.

Indeed. Off-topic, but CentOS 7 is supported through the middle of 2024, and despite Blackmagic Design not providing an ISO for CentOS 8, I find that it runs pretty well: https://sethgoldin.github.io/install-da ... s-8.3.html

Given that CentOS 8's lifecycle has been cut short, I'm thinking I'll kick the tires on both Rocky Linux and RHEL 8.

Rocky is somewhat of the community-driven successor to CentOS, and RHEL 8 is actually free in production for small workloads.

Bumping this topic because 9.5 is no longer available in the RHEL/CentOS/Rocky repos. So what's someone supposed to do now? Go compile and install from the source code?

As you say, CentOS 7.9 EOL is 2024.. but we are thinking about PostGres before then.

Peter, that was just a side note on this thread. PostgreSQL 9.5 is already EOL on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and yet that's what's still being provided with the latest builds of Resolve.

Since there will be no more updates, CVEs will continue to accumulate.
