Audio tracks missing after upgrade (15->17)

I've been working on a project for my wife of a wedding video compilation, and I had a lot of overlaying songs and videos. I very stupidly upgraded resolve version in the middle of it, and now many of the video tracks now have only "Mute" tracks available for audio. They were working perfectly before the upgrade, and still can play audio through resolve (not on the timeline) when I go to "Find in Media Pool"-> "Reveal in Media Storage" -> and then play from there.
I've tried even re-importing them in and no audio is imported with them.
Formats I'm having trouble with: 1. MTS (AAC) 2. M4V (AAC)

There's actually a new forum for version 17 issues.

Are the source channels indicating "Mute" instead of an embedded channel in Clip Attributes?

Hi Scott,
Could you please send us a sample for us to reproduce the issue here?
We'll need one of the source media and the project. You can zip and upload on any file sharing website (like dropbox etc.) and send us a link here.

Did this issue ever have a resolution. The dreaded "mute" audio track is happening now on a project on 5 or 7 different clips.

Just want to reiterate, this is a particularly ugly bug.
In my case DR16 projects in DR17 have random audio events where clip attributes is "muted" with no option to select channel 1 or channel 2.
The only work around is to "replace clip" and then go back to clip attributes and change from mute to Ch1 or 2 etc.
However, on the clips that were sync audio. Meaning I had a camera and separate audio recorder that were synced manually on the media page. Those clips I can't do a simple replace media and I am forced to manually resync. HUGE PITA.
Thanks,
Erik

I'm having a similar issue.
Resolve Beta 2
Opened a project this morning. Did some work on the edit. Switched over to Fairlight page and applied some audio ducking. Everything was fine and working as expected. Graded a few shots then saved and shut Resolve down as I went to grab some lunch.
Relaunch resolve and the audio from my clips are all muted (Audio 1 and Audio 2). The music (Audio 3) if fine. There is no way to unmute the tracks. The audio tracks are all set to unmute, the Inspector shows that each tracks has their gain up as does each clip.
If I right click on the clip and select Clip Attributes I check the audio 2 mono channels are shown and both are set to mute, clicking on the dropdown only shows mute as an option.

If I reveal the clip in the media bin and check clip attributes the clip has no audio.

Trying to Relink the file does not work. All that does is causes the clip to go off-line. Only fix seems to be to Replace the clip with itself.

And all the grades I had worked on have reverted back to and older version.

Scott, Eric, and others,
Would one of you be able to provide a copy of the original (v15 or v16) project export (DRP) and point us to a clip that now appears muted?
Adam
In your last post, do you mean that clips with bad grades in 17.0 beta 1 now appear normal?
Or do you mean there is an issue in 17.0 beta 2?
If it's the latter, some description, preferably with screenshots as to what you observe would help.
Thanks
Shrinivas

I've had the same issue. I upgraded a 16 project to 17 and random clips on the timeline have lost audio. Under clip attributes, all the available tracks are now "mute" and can't be recovered. The clip in the media pool also loses the audio in the same way. I have to fix it by re-importing the clip from my hard drive. It only happens on certain clips and I can't see an association with anything.
Thanks for a great piece of software! I'm in the pro version on Windows 10 btw.

Ran into this one myself, today. An MP4 clip with AAC audio, previously working in 16, showed up in 17 with no audio.
I renamed the file on the hard drive and did a Replace from the bin, and audio works again.
Unfortunately, I'm not at liberty to share either the project or the offending clip.

Shrivnas,
I will try to supply you with something on this going forward. Like I was saying, this is a nasty bug and the editor's response is to fix all of the offending clips ASAP so that we can get on with our work.
That said, I will try to open up some old DR16 projects into DR17 soon and see if I can quickly find another example.

I have also stumbled into this very same issue. No idea how and why. I was just busy editing and suddenly audio on some clips just vanished. Well muted.

This fixed the problem for me, did not have to change any settings in "clips attributes"

Agreed. I haven't seen this problem since I upgraded to DR17 beta3. Hope it sticks.

Hi,
Thanks all.
I experienced the same issue with some tracks missing (17B2). I found it was related to proxy media I had generated. I deleted the proxies. (I had to delete them) Relinked the clips to originals, and the audio returned to the clips and the timeline.
By the way, some of the proxy files, when played outside of resolve did not have audio. I'm on to beta 3 now and will try generating new proxies and see what happens.
Hope this helps.

I'm in 16.2.7.010 and had a similar issue. Didn't upgrade the project or anything, just unplugged the drive containting footage, relinked and some of my audio clips weren't working. Found a stupid solution that worked.
Scenario
I relinked my footage and audio files and some of my audio files didn't work. In particular, the audio I had recorded with an external audio recorder and synchronized with my camera in the media pool did not play or display a waveform. When I went to the source audio or source footage in the media pool, they played just fine, the linked audio just didn't register in the timeline.
Fix
Right-clicked each offending clip in the timeline and went to clip attributes>audio. Under 'source channel' I selected 'embedded channel 1' and clicked ok. The camera's embedded audio appeared in the timeline an played back correctly. THEN, I right-clicked the clip>clip attributes>audio>source channel, again, but then reverted the source channel to 'linked channel 1.'
This made my linked audio waveform and playback return properly.
For the record, this was an EXTREMELY annoying bug and this needs to be fixed ASAP, BlackMagic.
