Audio waveforms not visible on Edit page

PostThu Nov 19, 2020 7:17 pm

Hi all,

I encountered a very weird and fruistrating issue today: while trying to edit a very simple movie, I realised that I cannot get the audio wave-forms to show on the audio track.

This is the setup:
  • Resolve Studio 16.2.7.010;
  • One V track (couple of BMPCC6k braw clips);
  • One A track (a simple .mp3 song from EpidemicSound);
  • Windows 10 PC, fairly powerful (intel i9900, 32GB ram, AMD Radeon VI, ...
Wave forms do show up on the CUT and FAIRLIGHT pages, while they do not show up on the EDIT and DELIVER pages. The Timeline view options button also works properly on the FAIRLIGHT page (I can turn wave forms on and off). On the EDIT and DELIVER pages it does not work for AUDIO.

One potential curiosity:

I use shortcuts to access all pages (SHIFT + 2345678). I cannot access FAIRLIGHT page by pressing the 'Shift+7' combo if I am on either of the MEDIA, CUT, EDIT or FUSION pages. If however, I transfer to COLOR or DELIVER pages, then 'Shift+7' works properly.

Please help, I cannot continue using this product without waveforms. Many thanks in advance!

Hello Peter,

no, unfortunately not. I googled a lot and saw that some people who have this issue have indeed forgotten to toggle the waveform option but in my case it does not work on the EDIT page. On the FAIRLIGHT page it does work.

The track size is large enough to show a waveform? You're not using Simple View in the Timeline View Options?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

UPDATE:

Solved the problem (kind of)! I restarted Resolve a couple of times, as well as the whole PC and I re-tried toggling the "Show waveform" button in the Timeline view options a couple of times. Now I have waveforms on all of the relevant pages.

The other issue still persists - I am unable to use Shift+7 to switch to the Fairlight page if I am on the MEDIA, CUT or EDIT pages. If I am on FUSION, COLOR or DELIVER pages then it works.

This happens to me from time to time, even in Resolve 17, especially on the Edit page, but it does happen in Fairlight as well. If I hit the timeline icon, the "Audio Wave Options" options is grey, and although I can seemingly toggle non-rectified / full / waveform border options, the waveform does not appear. I have no clue what is causing the waveform to disappear (and sometimes re-appear without even touching the program), but it is very frustrating.

I also am having this same frustrating problem. I tried restarting Resolve, rebooting the machine (MacBook Pro), and nothing has helped. It is almost impossible to work without the audio waveforms.
