Resolve Studio 17.0B is messing my audio

PostThu Nov 19, 2020 11:40 pm

This is getting frustrating now.

I have just installed the new RESOLVE 17.0B Beta. And every time I run the software it messes with my Soundblaster Audio Card.

Before I use Resolve I can confirm that my audio works perfectly. However when I start DaVinci Resolve 17.0B then I start to hear crackles in the playback when I am editing.

What is even worse is that the audio on my entire computer starts to crackle. It does not matter if I watch something on the internet or play a MP3 file on my computer.

However if I Close out of Resolve, the Soundblaster Audio returns to normal.

THIS IS SERIOUSLY P***ING ME OFF

That's nice.

You must be a hoot at parties.

I have no choice but to use the Beta software because my Graphic Card does not work in older versions of Resolve (yet).

For anybody else that's interested, I have had a reply back from the DaVinci Resolve company, via the store where I bought my Studio Licence.

I wiped my Window's 10 OS back to an earlier version of Resolve 16
I completely remove Resolve 16 including hidden files that I did not know existed.
I used a Third Party Display Drivers removal tool to remove my Nvidia graphics drivers.
I installed the Nvidia Studio drivers, which had only just been released three days ago.
I re-installed the latest Resolve Studio Beta

So far the sound issues have been resolved. However I still have my rendering problems with h.265. But that is in another topic.

NO the Sound issues have not been resolved.

After using Resolve for 30 minutes or so, the sound issues have returned.

What happens if you have no other programs running than Resolve? Are the Soundblaster drivers up to date? Is the Soundblaster card running at the same sample rate (48k) as Resolve? Crackling audio is often caused by a clocking issue or buffer size.
Out of interest, what Soundblaster card are you using?

Sorry for the delay replying.

I have a Soundblaster Z card and the Drivers are up-to-date. As for sample rate, I'm sorry but I can't find that information.
My computer does not have any over or under clocking and everything runs as recommended by the manufacturers.

Even though the Soundblaster is old, it sounds great.

I know that the problem is with Resolve and the Sound card because when Resolve is running any audio on any open ap or website crackles. Even system notification noises crackle. However if I plug my headphones into the motherboard, from the front panel then the crackling goes away immediately. The crackles return the moment I remove the headphones.

Also the moment I shut down resolve 17, the crackling stops.

There may be a conflict going on. One thing you could try is putting the card into a different PCI slot.

Just thought I'd add an update.
I have wiped my computer clean and re-insatalled everything slowly to ensure a clean Operating System. This has worked out well and I have managed to get DaVinci Resolve 16 Studio to work with my RTX 3070 graphic card.

However the crackle noise still persists while I use Resolve 16. That crackle wasn't there with my AMD RX580 card.

Hmm.

When you did the reinstall, did that include the Sound Blaster?

Got it.

Weird one, man.

Have you tested taking audio from the mobo, or over HDMI from the GPU? Just to see what happens.

Hi there,

I have the exact same problem when I listen to my timeline audio track through my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd GEN.

I am experiencing crackles that are not present when listening to the same audio track outside of DaVinci Resolve.

In addition, If I launch an audio track playback in Davinci Resolve and I launch a youtube video, or Spotify, etc ... (through my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd GEN) the crackles are there !

If I close DaVinci Resolve the problem goes away.

I tried to uninstall my Focustite drivers and install ASIO4ALL and the issue is still there.

No issues when monitoring audio track directly frome the jack connector on my Motherboard.

My conf :

Windows 10.
Ryzen 7 5800X.
RTX 3080.
64 go.
DaVinci Resolve Studio 17 (Beta 6).

That is preferable.

ASIO4ALL will not help you as Resolve does not use ASIO drivers.

Say's who?

I don't want to wear headphones all the time, especially when I don't need to wear them because I am not focusing on the audio while in Resolve.

I think I may have found the culprit.

I did not realise that the Drivers for my RTX 3070 come with an Audio Driver. And why would I want Audio Drivers for a graphics card?

Anyway, once I noticed this and removed the Nvidia Audio Drivers then the crackling sound stopped.

I am very seriously considering buying a second-hamd graphics card because the new Nvidia card and Resolve do not play nicely with each other.
