Hello,
Here is a feedback from a concert project i just finished on :
- DaVinci Resolve 16.2.7.
- 13 cameras (3x BMPCC6K, 5x sony FS7, 3x sony F5, 2x sony FS5)
- Shared database on NUC with centos 7
- 4 editors.
We created proxys of all those materials with Prores Proxy.
The database and shared project was very stable. no problem on that side.
Davinci had it's crash but nothing to worry about. Restarting the software or the computer solved it all.
creating the multicam, synchronized with Tentacle was a breeze.
Then we hit a Major problem at the end of post-production :
1st problem :
Multicam clip is not seen by resolve as a timeline but as a compound so you can't use the "reconform from bins" or "reconform from folder" option, you have to manually reconnect all clips one by one to the original media.
2nd problem :
After connecting back to original High Res media from cameras to grade, we used the "flatten multicam" function...
and that's when we realized that all the effects even the most simple ones like a resizes disapeared... not to mention the time remaps.
obviously the colorist wanted to use the "remote grading" to grade faster all clips from the same camera, but you can't use that option on a multicam clip as it is taken as one shot.
So for that sequence that was 1500 clips and 1h30 min long, we had to manually copy/paste attributes from the "multicam video track" to the "flattened video track" and check it.
This is really not good and what a waste of time!
a Multicam clip should not be the same as a compound clip. A multicam is not used in the same way by editors so the software should not.
we should be able to "reconform from bins" the clips inside a multicam.
we should be able to "flatten multicam and keep attributes or effects"
still a big resolve supporter but i didn't see that one coming and it did cost a lot to figure out that too late as it seems so obvious.
Have a nice day !
