How to blur a png with alpha

PostThu Nov 26, 2020 10:11 pm

I have come across this problem a couple of times and just ignored it by changing my idea for the graphic I was working on, but now I really want it to work this time.

I am not sure if this is a Resolve question or a Fusion one, but what I would like to do is create a rack focus effect on a png logo, which has an alpha layer, with a moving clip in the background.

When I use the various blur effects in the OpenFX panel, they all blur "into" the png, and not outwards into the alpha layer.

How can I achieve this look?

I can’t remember if it was in previous versions, but in v17, at the bottom of the FX settings panel, there is a checkbox to use the alpha channel.

As a part of this problem Resolve also needs same checkbox for input scaling. Currently scaled Images with alpha channel produce jugged edges, as it was discussed in other thread.

What are your experiences with 18.5 on this issue? "Blur alpha" in the OFX settings no longer works. Also, color page blur has no effect :/?

Albeit, a workaround: Fusion -- drop on blur and you're done.

Applying blur effects on the Edit Page works with alpha channel blur but alpha channel blur is still broken on the Color Page.
