DaVinci Resolve 17 (Concerns with editing software)

Hello everyone I'm worried about buying the new editing software DaVinci Resolve 17 because when I download the beta I keep running into "ResolveInstaller.msi" and it's not located on my computer. I was wondering if I should buy the full version. Do I bypass this step?

Best regards

Are you downloading the free 17 beta? And are you downloading the 17b3 version?

When you unzip the download zip installer, you should run the DaVinci_Resolve_17.0b3_Windows.exe installer.

When you do that, do you get the error? If so, please provide a screen shot of the error.

I've downloaded the beta17. If I buy the full version will this still be a issue?

I think this message is coming from a failed attempt to remove the earlier version (in my case, the free version 16) I am trying to install 17.0b3_Windows.zip. My version 16 was hanging on the "Loading Firlight page" and would not start. I am unable to uninstall it and get the exact same message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource which is unavailable". Locate an alternate path to RemoveInstaller.msi C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\{C8C3C703-0291-4F6E-8C57-B25172FC0FDA}\
"Unable to remove older version"

This same message appears when attempting to install the version 17 beta.

Is my Windows Registry messed up? How does this get fixed? I see this question being asked in many places but no good answer is being offered anywhere.

Thank You, and sorry to be a pain.
I download and ran the MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab and it did not find anything related to Resolve to remove or install. After rebooting, I went to my folder, where I had extracted DaVinci_Resolve_17.0b3_Windows and double clicked the executable.
The process paused at the message I have included as a screen shot. It says the beta is already installed(but it is not). I click install as this dialog shows and the process finishes with a happy "Complete".
Unfortunately, it didn't put anything in my C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design directory and the Microsoft .CAB utility didn't find anything wrong.

Is there anything else I can try?

The Microsoft thing fixes these types of issues the majority of the time.

Do you have this folder on your system:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

If so, delete the DaVinci Resolve folder.

Then open regedit and in the Registry Editor app, go to this location:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

You'll see a Version item. Double click it. That will open an Edit String window, and in the Value data area, I assume you'll see 17.0.00010

Delete that number, so the Value item area is empty. Then click OK. Then exit the Registry Editor.

Now run the installer.

Or better yet. Install the new 17.0 beta 4 version. That should install over the existing version without doing any of the above.

I had deleted Resolve's program directory and searched all over the Windows Registry, for anything "DaVinci". The Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve key never came up!

Once deleted, I was able to download and install beta 4. Thank you!
On to evaluation and testing!

Hi Dwayne,
I have a similar issue with DaVinci Resolve 17b4 crashing at launch after installing over 16

Followed your steps...
Deleted the folder:
C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

opened regedit and in the Registry Editor app, go to this location:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Deleted string for 17.0.00013

Exited and re-ran installer...

Still cannot launch program.
Crashes as it launches after logo appears.

Even ran MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab and uninstalled the app.

Crashing when launching the app is not the same as issues installing the app.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.
