Data Burn-in Bug or Feature? (Version 17 Beta)

PostWed Dec 09, 2020 5:12 am

I have been using burn-ins since version 15, and so I'm relatively familiar with how they work. Today I tried something new in 17 beta, where I have a client's footage in one track, and above this, I have their logo as a semi-transparent PNG file to be displayed in the lower left corner. I'm also trying to burn in the date of the client clip below the logo, as I normally do per clip, but without their logo. Strangely, the burn-in disappears as soon as there is media placed on the track above.

The burn in is not overlapping with the scaled PNG file's pixels, so it's not 'hidden' anywhere I can see. It just disappears. I'm not sure why this would be a feature, so I'm thinking it's a bug? I can work around this by manually putting in a text field per clip to mark the date, but that kinda defeats the purpose of the burn-in functionality. To be clear, I've triple checked that I am selecting the 'clip' and not 'project' button in the burn-in dialog, and I am selecting this on the client's clip, not the png clip in the track above. I don't know if this worked in version 16, and really don't care to downgrade, but hoping this can either be verified as a bug, or explained to me as to why this is a feature.

Kind thanks for any feedback!

I can't duplicate this. Seems to be working fine in Studio 17b4 for Windows.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I uploaded a video here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jSdsdE ... sp=sharing

that shows the problem. My os is OSX Big Sur, 11.0.1 on imac pro 18 core 64gb ram. Davinci Resolve 17.0B build 10.

In the video you can see the data burn in only works for the entire PROJECT, but not for individual clips in Track 1, which is the expected behavior, when that clip is selected and you select CLIP in the data-burn in dialog window.

Let me know what you think, thanks.

Hi feetup69,

Did you find a solution to this issue? I'm experiencing it as well. The top clip's Data burn in will show up, but the clip below it will not, despite the top clip being cropped well out of the way.

I'm running the latest v17 beta (18) and the latest NVidia Studio drivers from 12/15/2020.
