no popup when trying to change timeline view options

PostWed Dec 09, 2020 12:18 pm

.. have resolve 17-4 (and 16) installed on an asus crosshair with amd r3900xt, 48gb 3200 memory and nvidia rtx 3070 with driver 457.30 on windows 10 pro; when i select "timeline view options" and hover over its popup window, the popup (except the icon i hovered over) disappears and the cursor is back .. active in the timeline. means, i can´t use this at all.

Came here to post about this.

Here's a video about it:

Resolve 17.0B Build 13, running on Windows 10 Pro for Workstations (OS Build 19041.572) with an Nvidia Quadro P4000 (driver version 27.21.14.5239, aka 452.39 WHQL), running at UHD resolution on a Samsung U28E850 monitor.

Issue occurs in fullscreen and windowed mode, and also single or dual monitor mode.

Be sure Display Scaling is set to 100%.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hi, Jim! Thanks for replying.

As in system display scaling, or an option within Resolve?

My system scaling has to be set at 150%. At 100%, everything is far too small.

I've read on the forums that Resolve has needed a 150% scaling option for some time and it was only a Windows update that allowed 150% scaling that made Resolve usable on a UHD screen.

Then you need a physically larger monitor. That setting should always be 100%.

I recommend the following minimums for screen size.

24" @ 1080
27" @ 1440
32" @ 2160

If you already haven't done so, try resetting the UI. It's in the Workspace dropdown menu and called "Reset UI Layout".

I'm sorry, but I absolutely disagree!

This is a 28" monitor that's about 18 inches from my face, probably taking up a 100° FOV.

The fact that Windows recommends a 150% UI scale up as a default tells me that it is not expected that people use 100% scaling with a UHD monitor.

This is about a UI bug in beta software and it's, frankly, madness to suggest that the fix isn't to patch the software, but to change how I use my entire system. No, I'm sorry.

System scaling works. UI scaling also works just fine within most applications.

Alas, Charles, that didn't help, but thank you!

Yeah I've got the same problem. It's only with version 17. 16 was fine for me. So what worked for me is to set the system ui scaling to 100 percent, go back into resolve change the timeline to tabbed timeline view save the project, switch back to the system UI scaling settings set them to 150%, switch back and I still have tabbed views. However, if you don't save the project then the tabbed views goes back to single timeline view. It's a janky solution to a janky problem. BTW resetting the UI within Resolve doesn't solve the problem.

Please BM fix this. I'm using a cintiq pro 15.6 and it's perfect for my workflow and much faster than using the speed editor. 100% is too small and upgrading to a large cintiq is out of the question. A short cut key would be a compromise.

On a side note would be nice to be able to arrange the edit screen as the user sees fit as most other NLEs can. Even better allow users to decide if the menus (drop down and popup) can be switched between left handed and right handed users. Currently for tablet right hand users the user's hand obscures the menus so you have to contort them to read.
