Full-Screen Playback on Second 4K Monitor?

Greetings all,

We have recently upgraded our edit suite and have two 4K Panavision certified monitors. Is it possible to set the second monitor up for full screen playback while using the first monitor to edit/color grade etc.?

If so could someone point me to the documentation on how to set this up or give me some guidance? Thanks in advance for any and all help. This is a great forum!

Get a Decklink (mini monitor 4k)

Thanks to everyone who contributed this information. We built our newest edit suite to handle 8k editing but usually only produce 4k projects. Also as I mentioned both of our edit suite monitors are 4k monitors.

That said which Decklink card do you folks reccomend? It's great there are so many choices but I for sure need some guidance in choosing the right card.

Also with the recent release of the new BM 12k camera we need to start thinking about making sure we gear up to handle 12 media. Our business has, however, really been off since this virus hit so our $$ is really tight.

Any and all help and suggestions here GREATLY appreciated!

PS We have also invested a fortune in very high-end NVIDIA graphics cards... does Decklink still allow these cards to be used for processing or not? Exactly how does this work? Any engineers here to comment?

PS first: Yes, your high-end graphics cards will still be very valuable and important. Decklinks don't contribute to computing power, they just enable a clean path for monitoring. You'll still the GPUs (which ones do you have) for computing and GUI.

Regarding 12K, BRAW is not a computationally heavy codec. If your current 8K sources are R3D (or what else?) and they are running smoothly, you should have no problem with 12K BRAW. You'll normally stay in an 8K timeline anyway.

Regarding Decklink cards, you need to understand the difference between 4K (Cine) and UHD (TV). The cheapest cards only support UHD. If you need cine, you'll need to go higher. The rest depends on the connections you need for your monitors.

Presently we are using NVIDIA Titan graphics cards (the
"V" model I believe, seems like they were around 3k each) and are very happy with them.

Would you mind enlightening me regarding g the cine end of the decklink line? Although we have mainly produced commercials we are actively moving more into documentary and feature work.

4K cine is 4096 pixels wide (with varying height), while UHD is always 16:9 and has only 3840 by 2160 pixels.

That said, many indie festivals would also accept UHD for screening, but clients for high-end commercials might ask for true cine.
