Error during Export From Davinci 16 with Big Sur

PostSun Dec 13, 2020 7:17 pm

Hi everybody, thank you for your help in advance.
Here's the thing...
I have Davinci Studio 16.2.7 and I was editing a project.
I export it in ProRes 422 and then in H.264 for mobile.
Both videos playing perfectly on my desktop with every video player.
(I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" with Big Sur 1.0.1.)

I AirDrop it to my iPhone and the video is not playing.
Audio is playing but images are frozen with the first frame, every time there's a cut, it changes clip in the video but it still freezed with the first frame.
I tried to send it to my phone with Google Drive, Dropbox, wetransfer and nothing.. same problem.
I sent it to my brother's iPhone and iPad, same...
I sent it to my mom's Android phone and YES! it works!

One day I tried another thing, I took the ProRes I previously exported from Davinci and export it again from Premiere, and this time, it works everywhere!
I tired different codecs, different source files (braw, mp4, mov) and nothing.. I still can't send a Davinci export from my Mac to my iphone unless I re-export it with another software...
I posted the same problem in an Apple forum but I think it may be a DaVinci Resolve problem..
I also tried to upgrade to 17.0 b4 and nothing, same issue... that's why I'm here....

What can I do?
Please help...

Hi, I haven’t a solution but can confirm that I’m experiencing the same issue. It appears to me that there is some form of compatibility issue with .mov files / davinci resolve & appleTV apps. I’ve had one suggestion to the problem I raise but no solutions as yet.

I struggled with a similar issue. Where I could play rendered videos on my iMac but if I tried playing the file on iPad / iPhone / TV using AppleTV I'd only get the 1st frame of each scene + audio. I've finally managed to get things working ok by 1st rendering the file using DNxHD Codec and then converting it into an mp4 file using the Handbrake conversion software. Here are the settings I used. Good luck!

I tried to re-export the DaVinci Export with Media Encoder, or Premiere Pro..
Yes it works, but I have a really bad gamma shift..
I noticed that H.265 from DaVinci works but the export looks really bad and compressed...
I find it annoying to export 2 times using two different softwares for every single video I have to do...

UPDATE!

it now works.
exports in quicktime h.264 are correctly airdropped and played by my iphone.
Don't know what happened.. no new MAc OS or iPhone IOs update where released
The only thing that changed is that I upgraded to the last version of Davinci resolve studio 17 Beta (v7)
It seems to be fixed for now, I'll keep you updated if something happens.

Hi Stefano
I'm happy for you. Sadly no change at my end. Even upgrading to v17 I still need to go through the extra Handbrake conversion. Otherwise I end up with a soundtrack + a series of stills (one for each clip).
