Speed Editor no License?

PostMon Dec 14, 2020 3:38 pm

I ordered the Speed Editor the day it was available on Adorama's website. It was my understanding that it was to include a Studio license, not sure if that was a dongle or a card.

I reached out to Adorama since there was nothing in the box, not even a note about it.

I was advised to reach out to Blackmagic. So I am starting here. What do I do?

I believe you needed to purchase Resolve Studio and the Speed Editor comes with it for free, not the other way around.

Our local BMD reseller sells them "the other way around" - if you buy a Davinci Resolve Studio (card of dongle) you will receive a FREE Speed Editor.
If you buy a Speed Editor you receive a Speed Editor only. Note that the Davinci Resolve Studio costs a little bit more than the Speed Editor.

Call them to see if they can change the order without sending the speed editor back. If not you will nee d to send it back and purchase the dvr license to receive the SE.

Is the deal still on?

That kind of sucks - I ordered the SE based on the info presented.

The info presented by Grant in the release video is that you can buy the hardware alone, or buy a new Studio license and get the hardware for free.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Well then I misunderstood that completely. Seemed like it was a two way street. Guess Not.

That is what was said on the BMD video. I was quite specific when I ordered mine. It does make a difference though my supplier was running a deal buy the speed editor get the DVR Studio for free. The problem was the BMD video was specific that for a limited time if you buy Resolve Studio 17 you get the free keyboard. They aren't shipping V17 yet!! only the public Beta.

Which is odd as DVR Studio 17 won't be released by then..... (only the Beta ) DVR 16 is the current Release that distributors have...

Fortunately despite the offer being "DVR 17 Studio with free Speed Editor" my supplier http://www.ProAV.co.uk supplied DVR Studio 16 with a Free Speed Editor as the key works for DVR Studio 16 and 17.

It all arrived a few days ago so I am happy (to a point) no ASIO drivers n DVR 17 and no way to turn off the BLueTooth on the speed editor:-(
