Davinci Resolve 17 Beta 4 doesn't playback smoothly

PostMon Dec 14, 2020 7:24 pm

Hi Everyone,

Hope the community can help me!

So exciting to see how DR has evolved. I want so much to play in the 17 Beta. I have tried all betas and can't get my system to perform like the version I am using now (16.3.0011). Using this version is like cutting butter. I have downloaded all 12K footage from BMD's website and I can edit with the footage perfectly. We are seriously considering buying one or more of these camera's but feel that the new version of DR needs to be in place to really monopolize on the technology.

PROBLEM: All DR 17 betas don't playback smoothly even with no color correction. I have tried 12K footage, 4K PNG animation streams, RED footage, AVC footage. Even 1080P footage doesn't have a reliable and consistent playback stream. I can even optimize the footage and or smart cache footage and still don't get great playback.

Normally I don't even cache footage because playback on my system is typically smooth enough to do my editing.

FYI, I have Maya on this system as well and have found that disabling Hyperthreading on my AMD system vastly improves stability. This is especially true with Fusion as well. If my computer ever freezes it is usually a Fusion issue. I have been editing for a while now with 16 and it has been mostly stable.

Given the power of my system, I wouldn't think that DR 17 should be giving me a problem. Below is my system for reference:

Thanks,

Bjarne

Re: Davinci Resolve 17 Beta 7 doesn't playback smoothly

PostWed Jan 27, 2021 5:40 pm

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to update the group on my system. I am now running DR 17 Beta 7, with the December 2020 RAW software update and Desktop Video 12 on my Windows 10 machine. I will be rolling back to the 16.3.0011 beta which is running amazingly well. I am wanting so much to work with 17, but no one replied to the original thread. Hope that someone can help me or suggest why 17 is useless on my system.

Beta 16.3.001 is not giving me any GPU Full errors. But 17 beta 7 is giving me GPU full errors, just like earlier versions of DR 15 and 16.

I have uploaded by DXDiag.txt and Davinci Resolve System information File.nfo in a zip file if anyone is willing to help me get up and running with DR 17j.
;-)

UPDATE! SUCCESS

I posted earlier today about my continued Davinci Resolve 17 Beta 7 playback issues. I have had problems in every version of 17 and have been so disappointed.

WELL, good news!!!! ... I just downloaded the latest version of Nvidia Drivers for my two installed Nvidia Quadro P4000 cards - version 461.40-quadro-rtx-desktop-notebook-win10-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe, that was just released yesterday. Playback is now smooth on all of the timelines I have tested, including the BMD 12K video samples at 24P.

Hope this helps others in the forum!

Bjarne
