17b5: still interlace problem

PostTue Dec 15, 2020 4:53 pm

Hi, today I installed 17b5.
The readme says:
*Addressed an issue with incorrect playback frame rates for interlaced projects
If you make a new project, selecting 25 frames per second in prefs, the timeline frame rate is 25 fps and the delivery page shows also a frame rate of 25.
If you then select "enable interlace processing" in the prefs, the timeline switches to 50 fields/s (correct) but delivery page switches to a frame rate of 50!
Rendering out a test shows that you aren't able to deliver 25i but only 50p.
Same goes if you drop an 25i interlace clip in a new project.

Since I'm in Europe I take 25 fps but also tried 29.97, same result.

What a nasty bug! What does the Media Info say on the file after export? 50p or 50i

Matthias,

Can you check if the interaced rendering checkbox is shown and enabled when you render? This would allow you to render to 50i (= 25 fps interlaced).

The option is available only for specific supported codecs - ProRes and DNx are supported. I'll have to check for the others.

Hi Shrivnivas,
indeed if I take a codec that supports interlace I can check "interlaced rendering" and the frame rate changes to "50i". I'll double check tomorrow when I'm in the office.
Still my problem persists that I can't use 50p material as 50i, it will be 25p.

In my experience, you can have a 50p timeline and check interlace rendering to get 50i in version 17.
BTW, there is not really 50i which would be 100 fields, you have 50 different positions in time, but 25 complete images in space.
The newer nomenclature is i/25 instead of 50i.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
