I just installed the newest b5 download, after first uninstalling the previous Studio 17 install, doing a registry clean with CCLeaner and a restart.

When I drag a video clip into my timeline or into media bin, nothing shows up, thumbnails and timeline is just black. These are clips that I have worked with in previous free versions just fine.

This seems to be just an issue with my desktop, as same version in my laptop is okay, with windows 10 pro at the same patch level. Specs for both laptop & desktop in my sig.

I have attached a log generated with the capturelogs.bat file.

That AMD card does not support the same codecs as the Nvidia does. You may need to switch off hardware support and live with very slow playback (or just transcode).

Thing is, it was working okay with my AMD card, as were earlier versions of Resolve.

And when it does the hardware check before installing, nothing comes up about it.

If your clips are in more than 8 bit or 4:2:0, there is a high probability that I'm right.

I will try it - where do I switch it off?

A quick google search isn't showing me much and I don't see it in project settings.

It's in the prefs.

Okay - in prefereces under Memory and GPU I unclicked the Auto in GPU configuration and turned off Decode H.264/H.265 using hardware acceleration in Decode options (it was the only thing checked)

I did them one at a time and restarted Resolve then tried dragging a video clip into the timeline in edit page, still same results. no video.

I even dragged video that wasn't H.264 and clips that were previously rendered in Resolve 16, still nothing, no video showing in thumbnail, timeline or trim window.

Try Workspace->Reset UI Layout
Worked for me when my timeline decided to go black ...
