SLOW! so slow Resolve is unusable for me

Hi,
The first post, I hope it`s in the right place.

My problem is that the timeline & media pool playbacks are super slow (Timeline playback is slower than the media pool playback), It`s impossible to edit this way and I hope you can help as I really like this software!

I tried everything I could find online :
1) Proxy - set to quarter - still choppy even when I see the video pixelated
2) Optimized video - set to DNxHR LB / SD - same results - choppy unusable video
3) Started a new timeline with the exact same FPS between Timeline frame rate&Playback frame rate
4) Set cache drive on SSD drive.

My software & hardware info :

Resolve version: 16.2.7.010

I am linking all my other hardware and software info & screenshots as described in the FAQ.

I will appreciate anything you can throw at me, this is my last resort!

Thank you
Nadav

Your CPU and GPU are both pretty old and underpowered for any serious use in Resolve.

The GT 710 has two variants - one that does not support CUDA 3.5 and one that barely does. The log indicates that it uses OpenCL for processing - so I'm guessing it's the former. The highest configuration comes in 1 GB or 2 GB VRAM variants. I don't think it has H.264 hardware decoding available, even if it did, the free version does not support it.

The i5-2400 is a 2011 mid-range processor, likely in a motherboard that supports 1333 KHz or 1600 KHz RAM speeds. These are google-able facts.

Here is the link to the 16.2.7 requirements doc:

What I'm saying is your system has multiple bottlenecks even before considering questions like hardware decode support in Studio or disk bandwidth limitations or FSB throughput or peripherals.

Thank you, I understand..
though while editing in Premiere I never had problems after rendering the timeline..

You're lucky! I have a highly specced machine and Premiere crashes regularly. Stopped using it seriously months ago and moved almost 100% to Resolve. Crashes are now extremely rare for me, can't remember the last one. The motto is: you need to meet the specs for the software otherwise you'll have problems. Good luck.

Two different programs. The performance of one doesn't dictate the performance of another.
