Is there a way to only play one audio track in source tape

PostWed Dec 16, 2020 8:48 pm

I just got my speed editor in the mail and I'm excited to use it but I've hit a wall. I'm used to the Edit tab and have only dabbled in Cut, so forgive me if I'm missing something obvious. When playing back from source tape it's playing all of my audio tracks, but these clips have several overlapping tracks. I want it to only play track one. Is there any way to do that? I could of course strip out the extra tracks before importing, but I'm hoping not to have to do that if I don't have to.

Hi Erik,

set the audio track type to mono, and in the pull down menu, select the mic/feed you want to use as your audio reference track.

That should do it.

I must have been half asleep when I wrote this originally. I meant to say play one audio TRACK, not channel, sorry for the confusion.

But thank you, that would indeed assist me in playing a single channel if that was what I wanted. :)

I take that back, it wouldn't work. I'm looking to change what I hear when reviewing the source tape on the cut page, and while you seem to be able to change the volume, pan, pitch and equalizer settings of a source clip, you cannot make any changes to the tracks or channels until it has been added to the timeline.

That did however give me the idea of making an intermediate timeline or compound clip and using it as the source for the real timeline, but that doesn't seem to work either since as soon as you switch to source in the cut page all of the timelines and compound clips go away.

Which brings me back to having to transcode all of my source materials to eliminate the extra tracks before editing.

Same problem, but I have a workaround!

What I did was trying to mute or delete the unnecessary audio tracks in the "Clip Attributes" menu in the media pool, but that didn't work for source tape either (which it definitely should!! why does source tape completely ignore the Clip Attributes?).

Nevertheless: You can switch from source tape to the normal "single clip" view mode for the source monitor.
This respects the changes you have made in the Clip Attributes.

Since the Speed Editor switches to source tape every time you hit the "source" button (which under working circumstances is great), this is quite annoying.
