Speed Editor + BT

PostWed Dec 16, 2020 9:57 pm

Hello,
I just received my Speed Editor and am already quite fond of it! However, I am unable to connect via Bluetooth - the editor shows up in my bluetooth system settings, but won't control anything in Resolve (17 build 15). Any ideas? It works fine plugged in through USB, so it's not that huge of a problem. Just having trouble figuring out why.

Did you uninstall the previous version before installing Beta 5?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I had the same issue until I'd let it charge overnight. It comes with a pretty low battery charge.

Also, the first few times I used it after the overnight charge, it wasn't clear to me how it knew to turn on. It will only turn on when Resolve is running, and now that I've gone through a couple of cycles, it wakes when Resolve comes up and sleeps when I quit Resolve very reliably. (On a Mac, if that matters.)

EDIT: Actually, it still sometimes takes poking at the Speed Editor keys for a few seconds to wake it up once Resolve is running. (I.e. the lights come on and it drives Resolve.)

Yes, it's charged overnight for two nights. Like I said, it works fine when plugged in with USB (I've used it all day for two days now), but never connects over Bluetooth. I pulled up the device manager (Windows) and it appears, but when I unplug from USB, it disappears.

Hmm... I can't speak for Windows. On the Mac, in case the steps are helpful...

Right out of the box, I could see the Speed Editor in the MacOS Bluetooth Preferences. And I could click on Connect in the prefs, but ithe indicator would just spin and eventually give up. I figured this was due to the battery being very low. After charging for a while -- I used the 80W charger for the MacBook itself -- I was finally able to click Connect and it connected and appeared (in Bluetooth Prefs) alongside my Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad.

I think this pairing was necessary. Without it, you I could still use it via USB but not wirelessly. And having Resolve running was also necessary, the Speed Editor doesn't interact with anything else and even though connected via that Bluetooth Preferences, that wasn't enough for it to light up and work.

Nevermind! I figured out why and it's too embarrassing to even explain. Nothing to see here!

I recently had a computer built and the motherboard doesn't have BlueTooth capabilities. Like I said, embarrassing!
