Newbie to resolve - Should I just jump into 17 Beta ?

Hi All,

Have switched to Resolve Studio after some tests with free version.

I don't mind the odd crash or two so I'm wondering if I should just begin with the R17 beta and enjoy some of the new features rather than begin with R16?

If you're not doing anything mission critical and are willing to accept the risk that you may lose your work, I'd go for it.

The version 17 betas seem to be more stable for most people than the early previous betas, and your hardware should be quite acceptable.

Just remember that you won't be able to open anything you create in 17 in any earlier version if you do have problems.

I'm using it and it's been very stable. (I'm on a Mac, though, and they tend to be more stable because there's not as many options/updates for GPUs and Resolve pushed GPUs hard.)

The new features are compelling and it's quite stable for me. (There are some bugs, but not crashing bugs.

(Side note in case you didn't know. Your Resolve Studio license also works on Fusion Studio -- the standalone version of Fusion. Resolve has some additional features that Fusion Studio doesn't have, but Fusion Studio is a much leaner and faster option for visual effects. I've been enjoying it a lot. If you only use Fusion as a part of Resolve projects, not a big deal.)

From 16.2.7 and above, we support Nvidia's Ampere chipsets.

This mean that a minimum driver set is recommended, as is a minimum native CUDA support for the graphics card (see here).

The latter isn't of concern for your graphics card, but for the former, if you're upgrading from 16.2.6 or below, it would be a good idea to cleanly install an nvidia driver matching specs when installing Resolve 16.2.7 or Resolve 17 beta.

Hopefully my RTX 2080 will do ok.
