16.2.7 try to save, still says edited

PostWed Dec 16, 2020 11:04 pm

So I found a similar topic, but I didn't want this to get lost in there because my situation at least seems different.

In the other topic, it seems several people were unable to save at all. That is not exactly my issue.

I select save from the drop-down menu and/or ctrl-s after every edit I think I'm good with. Trained myself that way for many years. Lately I have been noticing that even after I do that, it still says 'edited' at the top of the screen in yellow or red, apparently time dependent.

It appears to do something when I hit save, there's a quick refresh that seems to happen. When I go to close the program, right after hitting save, it tells me the project has not been saved, and gives me an option to save before closing. So I hit save on the box and the program closes.

When I restart the program, save via menu or ctrl-s works for a time, but at some point always seems to stop working.

Now, it appears that the save on close works, but I am concerned that the manual saves I am doing are not actually doing anything because of the 'edited' notice at the top-center. Resolve doesn't crash for me that often, but does seems to do so about once every 8-12 hours of editing time.

I really don't want to have to close, save on close, and re-open the program every time I feel the need to save. Does anyone know what's going on? This seems to be an on-going problem through the last several releases.

I can't help with your problem directly, but this is what I'd do in this situation:

1/ Make a backup of the project just in case something gets corrupted.
2/ Open the backup and make a change that you will easily see on reopening the project.
3/ Hit Ctrl+S.
4/ Close the project. Do not save when prompted.
5/ Reopen that project and see if the change has taken.

Good idea! I will try that...

I have tried it with that setting checked. Still says edited at the top when I try to save. Then when I go to close it says project has not been saved. Luckily it does seem to allow me to save on close, but still...

The main concern here being that the "edited" at the top of the edit page (my understanding is that) it's there to notify you that it has NOT been saved and to remind you to save. If I am mistaken on that, then my bad. However, I'm sure everyone here has had work lost because of a crash and wish they had saved more. I am trying to save regularly, but my ocd is bothered because it appears to not be saving.

If Live Save is on and Resolve is asking you to save when you close, something is wrong in your setup.

You're using only internal drives here, no externals, no networks?

All internal drives. Almost new, freshly built (mostly for the purpose of editing) pc. It's not even my daily driver, just my editing rig atm.

I don't have live save on normally, but I did try it to see if it made a difference and it acted that way.

To be clear, when I first start a session, save seems to work normally. But at some point an hour to a few hours in, I start to notice that when I hit save via menu or ctrl-s, there is a quick refresh of the screen, which seems like normal saving behavior, but it still says 'edited' at the top of my screen -- in white, yellow or red, depending on time since last save. If I close the program right after that, it tells me that the project has not been saved and prompts me to do so. The save on exit seems to work. But I definitely don't want to have to close the problem every time I feel the need to save.

I have the same issue even in DR17. I just ignore it at this point and manually save often. I've noticed that it starts doing it more as I add things that need to be cached such as Fusion titles or images that aren't cached. If I press ctrl+s enough times without making a single change or moving the playhead then it will eventually show saved.

So for me I just marked it up to a caching issue, save often, and ignore the indicator; its a little annoying but I have way bigger problems most of the time to worry about.

OK.

Delve into your power settings and make sure everything is always fully powered - no sleep, hibernate, low power, or anything similar should be active on an edit system.

Yeah, I change all those settings when I first set up any production environment computer, but I double-checked and they are all set to never sleep/time-out, etc.

The weirdest thing is save works when I first start the program, and for at least the first little while while editing. Eventually it just stops changing the 'edited' notice.

This is a fairly new computer and a fresh install of Resolve -- first project on this machine. So I haven't even changed that many settings. Mostly just those with regard to project settings and cache/smooth playback general media stuff.

If Resolve is asking you to save when you close, then Live Save isn't working. The only reason I can think of to account for that is somehow the drive becomes inaccessible while you're working.

You're using an Admin account?

My Documents is in it's default location?

You installed Resolve to it's default location?

In the UEFI, all drives are set to AHCI?

I still say it is a caching issue. If you watch the blue lines above the timeline closely, you will probably see it say edited if any of the lines are red. Once all of the lines turn blue (caching finished) if you then press CTRL+S without moving the playhead, edited will go away. if for any reason the blue lines turn red again, you can press CTRL+S all you want...it will keep going back to edited until the caching is done, at least that's how it works on my system.

I agree with Stanley. It's always been like that on my systems (I don't use Live Save). It's not failing to save, it's just that every little thing affects the "Edited" status, even if it's a saveable action or not.
